WDW during a Recession / Economic Downturn

This has been my experience. Kids everywhere and thank God for that. Maybe in twenty years it will be all 40+ adults standing in line for Mickey Mouse. That is a scary thought.

I hope you have never visited a Disney park without a child (under 18y) or else you would be adding to the problem.

Oh stop. The take that their parks don’t depend on children defies logic and common sense. You have both of those things.
Maybe we're talking past each other.

I'm saying that the parks don't depend on families with children... solely.

Yes, if you take away the families with children, it would indeed drastically affect the parks.

But also... if you take way the Disney adults, it would have the same drastic affect on the parks. It ain't children keeping the EPCOT festival food kiosks alive, nor are they 'drinking around the world.'

This all started with the fever dream that adults going to Disney are... problematic. And what a joy it would be if they stopped going.

What a disaster it would be for the parks if that happened.

I think their parks now rely on every demographic. Can’t be too “choosy”…
They came up with that whacky plan 10 years ago and are now drying up the well as is

So the other major amusement park company (not in Orlando) took a bloodbath on earnings, a 22% stock drop in a week, and has announced they are all but slashing new investment in the parks until further notice.

Time for those lighting lanes to go up 👍🏻

My guess this is Six Flags/Cedar Fair or SeaWorld/United Parks?
It's Six Flags parks and its mainly due to only 15 of the 40 making money. Due to losing money, they have made cut a lot of holiday events and staffing. They also made 2026 passes $100 and includes all parks

I’ll never understand why these groups keep getting spun off/grouped/bought/consolidated/etc?

It could just be that the era of amusement parks has ended? The overhead keeps rising and a lot of the public is squeezed from all angles. It’s a lot to ask.

That’s the EXACT reason why Disney is just fine with the 2 parks in the US…SF simply has too many parks in the country…the new “thrillers” aren’t cheap to build and maintain. Instead of building more parks, they should’ve expanded fewer parks and the markets would’ve responded by adding hotels in the vicinity…but hindsight is 20/20.

Six Flags is shuttering two parks, I expect more to follow.

I don't think it has ended at all. Cedar Point is on pace of another 4 million guests. Add in the money they make from the 4 hotels they own and they are doing very well. They will never be Disney lite with more entertainment and dark rides but they will always have their spot. IMO people here make them out to be much worse than they are.

I'm hopeful for the future. They have talked about focusing on the family market. Outside a few big coasters, they have been adding more family rides and coasters.

Outside of a few big coasters? Are you kidding me? That’s what CP is known for…18 coasters including Top Thrill 2 & Sirens Curse…they are known for their mega coasters…I have long passed thru the yearning to ride extreme coasters but I’m glad to let CP have the coaster title and keep the themed rides @ Disney and let CP & Six Flags keep the mega coasters…IMHO, those coasters don’t have a place at a Disney park….YMMV

I'm saying Six Flags parks in general. They added a few big coasters this past season but also more family coasters as well.

I'm not saying for Disney to add those extreme coasters but that the Six Flags parks are looking to be more family focused. Adding more entertainment and family attractions. They will never be Disney lite with dark rides and slow moving rides.
