Gratz!

Did you have these on your Bingo card?...
  • Disney will have online gambling for just about all sports... live.
  • Disney will stream WWE.
  • Disney's most renown content will be an animated Australian blue dog.
:)
Yes, No, No.

Gambling was just a matter of time, despite some here who insist that Disney should have remained out of it completely.

WWE is a weird one, but as some have said in other threads recently its not the first time Disney has gotten involved with wrestling.

Bluey took everyone by surprise including Disney.

So won't be long now till most people's streaming bill exceeds their old cable bill.. even before internet fees.

Would be interesting to hear averages on what people are paying for streaming per household.

Yeah I saw that study... I don't think it really fits what I'm talking about... plus while highly cited, it's still a pretty small sample. Less than 3600 respondents total.

Plus the $69 avg is way too low for the population that actually pays for live TV streaming too.. as just that single offer is $80+ for most.

I mean the average I saw is that people subscribe to 3-4 streaming services. So that right there brings you close to the $69 per household.

Also how many actually subscribe to a LiveTV streaming services like HuluTV? HuluTV has what 4-5M, what about the rest of the services? Is it really that huge a number at this time? I have my doubts.

That correct on Hulu+Live TV and I think YouTube TV has under 10M subs

$2.99/month Disney+/Hulu. Just waiting on Thunderbolts to stream then I'll cancel again.

And I usually grab Paramount+ and HBO Max for a month each during Black Friday to catch up with what they added for the past year. That used to be about $2 each but I think it went up to $3 or $4 each. I've never found Peacock worth trying for less than that. I will have to grab Apple TV for a month at some point to catch up on the latest season of Foundation. And maybe for Murderbot. But probably will wait for some discount around $5 for a month if I can find it.

So total annually? Less than $50.

I watch way more on FAST services. All free.

I just ran my own personal numbers and I was 135CAD for internet, basic cable (no sports) and HBO in 2012 after a retention request bringing it down from 215.

I’m 120$ on much better internet, Netflix premium 4k, D+/Hulu ad free, Apple TV+, Prime on an education deal, Crunchyroll.

Still have a ways to go for me, particularly post inflation and without the need to constantly obtain retention deals. Maybe about 5 years it starts to converge. For now I remain in the entertainment has been devalued too much camp.

“Hulu will replace the Star tile on Disney+ internationally as the brand for adult-oriented programming.”

I missed this nugget. So wanted to highlight it.

Interesting that they consider the Hulu brand stronger than Star. I actually thought they might retain Hulu just for the Live TV component and then switch the tile on D+ to Star in the USA to differentiate.

Hulu+Live will be eaten by Fubo, of which, Disney will have a majority stake and control.

Hulu will then only live with Disney+ attached at the hip.

My guess is because Hulu has been around longer so has stronger name recognition, especially in the US. Easier to sell the merger of the services in the US when the name is kept. Outside the US it’s just a name change for an existing service, so nothing really changes.

Which Iron Man voice will they use? Stamos or the new one? Knowing Disney, they'll use an entirely new voice cast!

Star is significantly stronger outside the US (particularly in the subcontinent, but also Latin America where it was its own service for a time), so it's a really strange choice to copy the move internationally...

And yet they chose Hulu, indicating they think its easier to sell a Hulu rebranding of Star than the other way around.
