Walt Disney World Ride Elimination Game

Soarin' has always been the lesser cousin of the West Coast original. I'm seconding that one, so maybe we can get something going here and give Pirates, Space, or even Carousel a reprieve for now.

It was a brilliant, innovative compromise, a thrill ride for people who don't like thrill rides (everyone's mom's favorite ride, in my experience), but I think it's been surpassed by the very similar Flight of Passage. Also, I hate the EPCOT queue...it takes foreverrrr to get outside the park where the theaters are. As ridiculous as this sounds, I genuinely wish it could be switched back to Food Rocks!

I've already made the case against Test Track upthread (i.e., the first 90% of the ride was pretty mid in both 1.0 and 2.0), but I would also note that it too has a (FAR) superior cousin at California Adventure in Radiator Springs Racers (or even at Tokyo DisneySea, Journey to the Center of the Earth is also a much more interesting use of the same ride system).

With both of these I'm like: do they belong in the top 16 rides at WDW? Sure, okay. Top 10? No way! And I definitely don't think we should put Test Track there by default just because none of us have ridden 3.0 in the past week. It doesn't sound THAT different.

I like the way you think!

Test Track is on the chopping block for me too, unfortunately. Sorry to everyone who likes it, but all those Test Track, Soarin, Mission Space EPCOT rides are kinda eh to me. I don't hate them but I don't like them much either.

Carousel had a pretty good run.

They have a bland seriousness that comes from EPCOT's nonfiction roots, but with minimal edutainment value and more of an emphasis on physicality...a smart Eisner compromise between the thrills the tourist market was demanding and what EPCOT's DNA was. At least in theory, I like that approach better than ramming IP down everything's throat in obsessive pursuit of maximum synergy. But these rides share a certain flatness despite their good qualities (and Mission: Space has other problems as well).

Soarin' Around the World has been eliminated and voted out! I love Soarin', and find it beautiful and so moving. I do think Soarin' Over California is better tho, better smells, better transitions, no bad seats anywhere. Around the World's has a bit too much CGI in some landmarks of the ride like the Taj Mahal. I'm glad they updated the Eiffel Tower scene so it's no longer vertical and shown in an odd way. It's still a great ride, I just like Over California even better. Over California had beautiful natural landscapes and fit the screen so well. And that musical score on California's is incredible. Soarin' is truly ahead of it's time, and started the flying theater style ride that we have many of now. Soarin' still remains one of the top dogs of them. It's such a dope concept with the flying hang-gliding idea. Love it. Vote for which WDW ride to be eliminated out next!
