DHS Monster Inc Land Coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios

Last two words look like “Mike & Sully”, to me.

Gosh, I sure hope this building doesn’t turn into a glorified meet n’ greet space.
Building off the exciting announcements from last summer’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, the new land will include the coaster we’ve all dreamed of – a suspended ride recreating the door vault scene – plus dining and shopping and a whole new theater show.

Any other speculation that it's going to turn into something else is just fear mongering at this point.

For a franchise that hasn’t been relevant for more than a decade that no one cares about anymore.

Sort of like Cars.

Hmmmmmm

Ah, thanks for that. With a title like “Meet Monstropolis” I feared a fancier indoor meet n’ greet akin to what the princesses got at both castle parks.

Saying that Cars and Monsters Inc aren’t relevant franchises is laughable. Kids today love Lightning McQueen and Mike Wazouski.
They both move a ton of merch. Heck, the Cars area of Art of Animation is easily the most popular with young kids.

Both of these properties have stood the test of time phenomenally.

I for one love Monsters, Inc., it’s my favorite Pixar film. What I don’t like, is the removal of Muppet*Vision 3D for it when areas like the launch bay exist. Now the new Monsters area will always leave a sour taste in my mouth.

I believe (as with all things Disney these days), it came down to money. Muppets Courtyard already had the infrastructure in place for two restaurants, etc. and it was likely cheaper for them to repurpose those kitchens, facilities into Harryhausen’s, etc. than it would be to build them from the ground up.

Like, I understand the logic behind that decision-making. Still, it doesn’t make it any less disappointing to me.

I also think it enables them for a quicker turnaround vs doing something in Animation Courtyard which would require moving people currently in office space there, removing that office building and other infrastructure - just a bigger and more time consuming job

This lets them get something new that will draw people to DHS in a shorter time period and fit it in to come after Tropical Americas and before Piston Peak ... then have the bigger addition be in the 2nd 5-year of the updates

So do people want Disney to use older IPs or do they want to stay to recent stuff? But whenever they do use recent stuff they gripe and groan it's too much recent stuff.

"Franchise that hasn't been relevant for more than a decade that no one cares about anymore"

Yeah, Muppets Most Wanted did come out in 2014, so it's been more than a decade.

Out of EVERY POSSIBLE IP to use, Monsters Inc is as close as a happy medium you can get with modern Disney leadership. It's a beloved classic (2001 was 24 years ago! Mickey was only 27 when Disneyland opened!), that people still like, people still care about, the only other IP I can think of that can come close to this happy medium is... The Incredibles (classic Pixar), Wall-E (classic Pixar, but not theme park material), and UP (classic Pixar).

I get we're upset that the 34 year old 3D film is gone and the lightly themed pizza quick service is gonna become another one but come on, saying Monsters Inc and Cars aren't relevant is being obtuse on purpose.
