Which is the better ride? Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom or Space Mountain at Disneyland? This is of course the amazing Disneyland version, and not the much much weaker, rickety version at Magic Kingdom.

One ride consists of turn, ramp, turn. The other is one of the most thrilling mine coasters with a great backwards section. One is nearly 4 min long, the other much shorter. There is no contest.
But there is contest in some ways. I love the on-board audio on Space Mountain at Disneyland and the comfy and cooler ride vehicles (Everest's are uncomfortable) as well as the tunnels and effects throughout. Everest also STILL has a broken embarrassing audio-animatronic that has a strobe light dancing on it. A ride having it's main centerpiece broken for over 20 years now is quite lame. Even more lame on how the whole ride is hyping up encountering the Yeti so most expect it to be impressive only for it to be static and non-functional. A good half of it's effects but especially the Yeti do not work and have been broken for years now. I get what you're saying that the layout is kind of repetitive as a coaster, but it's still fun and the overall experience start to finish is just so much better to me. Plus, Everest is too intense and unenjoyable for some people. It's backwards section is good for people that can handle that and enjoy positive G-forces. I've heard and read so many people that didn't end up liking Everest and describing it as "uncomfortable" and "punishing" rather than thrilling due to it's nauseating backwards section.

Space Mountain. I’ll take either U.S version of SM over EE.

EE has a better queue, and I like the animated shadow scene. And for me that’s where it all ends. Boring layout, uncomfortable trains, broken overhyped AA, and (my opinion) a rough, unpleasant ride experience. Blech.

DL Space Mtn. is a joyful, comfortable, exhilarating ride complemented by one of the best onboard music scores ever.

This.

I love Disneyland's version of Space Mountain especially in that I grew up riding SM over at WDW.

EE is great, but I'm waiting for the yeti strobe light to burn out. Kidding of course, I always enjoy the ride but for me SM has the edge.

Both are overrated coasters in my opinion. Space has become better over the years with improvements (although RIP slightly better Dick Dale soundtrack) while Everest has worsened over the years. Everest is more impressive; but I still hate the start/stop nature of Everest. It feels like the ride is constantly stopping to buffer and for me, it feels like the coaster doesn't really start coastering until after the 2nd show scene, which leaves it with only one drop and a pretty short and tame coaster portion.

You have the "big" drop, a loooong and pretty slow giant left hand Helix, barely make it up into the showbuilding to see the disco Yeti, then immediately break after seeing it and you're at the station. It makes the ride feel anticlimatic as it gets slower and the lack of track/elements after the Yeti makes it feel like the Yeti is not deep in the mountains, but right on the ground level next to the queue. It was half the ride to journey into the mountains (small groundcoaster portion, slow lift, short valley into false lift, falling back into the heart of the mountain) only to get away with a small drop, a lazy helix, and a break run that makes it feel like the Yeti wasn't that big of a threat as you slow down before even exiting the cave.

Space Mountain doesn't have the bells and whistles, but it does get increasingly more and more energetic from the start of the gravity portion through the final break run.

TLDR: I leave Space Mountain going "phew, that is a pretty fun little Disney coaster." I leave Expedition Everest going "That's it? Its over already?"
