working out for Disney

No. I think it's because he's put so much time and effort into building a life here, he doesn't want to leave it behind. He said he wants to stay and push back because he feels like he shouldn't be driven out. That's nice and all, but I am not loving the current "life unworthy of life" type of rhetoric surrounding autistic people. There's a lot of stuff making me very uneasy, but I will leave it at that.
I get that. And there is a LOT going on that makes me uneasy as well, and I don't even live there. But I have friends and family who do, and a lot of the stuff going on right now with research is affecting E right now. She was just saying last night how often she has to use the NIH database in the US for her schoolwork. There's information that researchers all over the world use and have contributed to...if that were ever to be shut down, decades of research would be lost and would have to be redone.

Checking in with whatever week this is (22?). I finally started weighing myself on a more regular basis. It's not quite daily, but mainly weekdays. Still moving in the right direction. Now I just have to try not to freak out every single time I weigh in. I keep having fears that I'll see massive steps backwards.

Walking, biking, and the gym are also still going well. With the timing of morning daylight, I have shifted my morning walk to a route that gives me a good downhill/uphill experience. It also puts me in an area traveled by a lot of school kids for daily running requirements, so it's a bit safer. Starting to think about weighted vests, but it's also about to get hot and I'm not sure I want that. I picked Kendall up from school last week and both she and her friend noticed a big difference, so I guess I'm doing something right. She said I looked strong. 🏋️‍♀️

What a nice compliment for the friend to say you looked strong! Sounds like you should be proud of your hard work!

Well done on keeping consistent with your activities. 👍

I keep meaning to get a weighted vest, too. The ones I have seen have minimal coverage to prevent overheating. They look like back pack straps in the front and then there is a small weighted panel on the back. I still grimace at anything extra on my body when it's hot, though.

I was hoping to do a sweatin to the oldies workout today, but our TV broke on Mother's Day. I had tried to turn on the news, but I couldn't get the TV app to load. I turned it off and turned it back on a few times, unplugged it, plugged it back in....then I finally got it turned on and working. A couple of minutes into the news, it just suddenly cut out and the light went off on the TV. Usually, when it's on, the Philips logo is lit up at the bottom below the screen. When it's off, that isn't lit up, but there's a little red light right above the logo that's on. But neither were lit. My husband kept insisting that the logo lights up when it's off, and I told him I was pretty sure that only lit up when it's on, but I should have a red light if it was working. He said no, I was wrong. So we ordered a new TV. Then on Monday afternoon, suddenly that little red light was back on. So I tried it, and it worked again. We tried so many things to get it working and it was just dead until Monday Afternoon. But since we don't know what's wrong, and it could cut out again, we decided to go ahead with the new one. It came yesterday, and we got it all set up, turned it on, and there's this little spot where it looks like the screen was punctured or something. It's lit up bright green and there's a vertical green line from top to bottom and a black line left to right that intersect right at that bright green point. It doesn't go away. So we boxed it back up and are having a replacement sent today, but that means I don't have a TV on which I can view a workout.

It's disappointing, but it's at least nice weather so I'll go for a walk for my exercise instead.

In all honesty, with the way things are made today and the cost of repairs, it's usually cheaper to just buy something new for something like a tv. It's still frustrating because it's not something you were probably planning to replace, but we've learned the hard way that repairs have become a pricey ordeal with smaller things.

I'd like something with adjustable weighting, like you can add or remove bags of weight to an onboard pocketing system. Still, many of the better rated ones I've seen are a singular weight and they many of the ones more like what I wanted seem to lace up the sides. I guess that's great for an adjustable fit but there just doesn't appear to much of any breathability. I pushed my morning walk to lunch today because I had to take Sam to school so that K could have the truck to go do some shadowing of a dr in the city. It was 90 degrees out there and I was HOT in just what I had on. I'm sure it will improve as I acclimate to summery weather, but I would have been ready to pass out in a weighted vest on a day like today.

Weekly check in (a day late)...

Last week marks the first week of regular weigh-ins. I did it daily with the exception of the weekend, when I was on the run at my normal weigh-in time. The scale is still moving in the right direction on nearly a daily basis. It's funny, because it's usually been a source of dread but this does seem to be helping with my scale fears...like seeing it nearly each day makes it more predictable and manageable. It's funny because today it's also a source of a mental boost. I had taken some pics of myself yesterday to show progress, which weren't bad but weren't quite what I thought I was seeing in the mirror. All part of the dysmorphia game. Then I had some really unflattering pics of me taken at a banquet last night that sort of crushed my spirit. So, seeing the scale this morning go down another pound from yesterday was actually a well-needed pick-me-up. I also had a really funny weight loss boost I was not expecting. I have memory settings on my vehicle seats as well as a heads up display. When I was driving the other day, I noticed that my line of sight must now be lower because my heads up display was cut off. In other words, I've lost enough inches off of my posterior that I'm now sitting lower in my seat and need to boost and change my seat settings if I want to see the full display.

Other than that, just preparing for summer and trying to car shop for either me or K. Kendall needs a car of her own for the summer and to take back up to school, so it needs to be reliable for a longer drive. I'm on week 3 of shopping and I hate this whole process. I'll spare you the drama but part is just normal games with used car sales and part is trying to shop with a know-it-all 18 year old who has no idea and keeps injecting her ignorance and desires into the negotiation process. I did have the crazy idea that maybe I should send her back with my vehicle and I find something high mileage and FUN that's good for me to keep around town. Of course, I really like my current vehicle so it would have to be pretty special. We'll see how it goes.

I'm feeling discouraged. I don't weight myself because I find it demotivating when the scale doesn't move as much as I'd like. I go more by how my clothes fit and such, but I've been walking for about an hour almost every day for a month, and sometimes doing a cardio workout, and sometimes riding my bike. But the other day I tried on a pair of pants that were tight a month ago and couldn't even get them closed. I've been eating healthier.... Tons of veggies, fewer carbs. How can I have gotten bigger?? Could it just be water retention or bloating? Is there something that would cause that?

In other news, E is stuck on the train on the way home because someone jumped in front of it. E was sitting right up front. She said she didn't see anything, but felt it and heard it. We were chatting via WhatsApp and she suddenly said she might be late because they may have just hit something and then she said unfortunately it was a person. There is a mental facility right there in the town they had just passed and this happens frequently there, but she's never been ON the train when it happened. Her trains have been canceled or delayed before, but this is the first time that she was on the train that hit the person. She's a bit shaken. And estimates are that it will take at least three hours before they get the train going again. I'm hoping they will get the people off the train and either send a bus for them or that we can go pick her up so she doesn't have to wait until 8pm to continue her journey home!

I was 4.5 months into this journey before I did my first weigh-in, and that was sort of forced since it was my annual visit to the dr. There is no way I would be where I'm at right now if I faced the scale head on back in the beginning. It would have seemed too hopeless. In fact, the weight at that weigh in (after all of the work I'd been doing and results I was seeing) was still much higher than I expected, so I know anything before that would have been too discouraging. I just decided to keep doing it since I'd ripped off the proverbial bandaid and it's a common gauge. A lot of fitness people suggest things like a photo diary or measurements with a measuring tape to see results beyond the scale and without the mind games. Scales that measure more than weight are another option. Weight does fluctuate and depending on what you've eaten or are going through (stress, warm temps, time of month, perimenopause shifts, etc.), bloating and water retention could be the culprit. I also carry differently at times, so I may weigh in lower on the scale because I've lost overall but my tummy may be extra puffy from bloat. I'm no nutritionist, but I think a lot of it also hinges on simple caloric intake...regardless of what you're eating. I believe you have diabetic needs so carbs may be a trickier game, but even for those, it is often a matter of empty carbs vs. nutrient rich ones. I also try to be mindful of staying on the lean side when it comes to proteins so I don't get stymied by high fat content.

That's horrible and so traumatic for everyone on the train. Ugh...and she felt/heard it. How awful! Even worse that this happens semi regularly. I'm sure she's pretty shaken up about it. Hopefully she won't be too horribly delayed. Waiting and knowing the details can't help the time go by.

I HAD just eaten dinner when I tried the pants on. I had a couple other pairs of pants, but this one is the one that is most flattering and we were supposed to wear what we planned to wear for a possible upcoming performance to choir that night. I waited until after dinner to change so I wouldn't spill on the nice white pants. But then theses pants wouldn't fit. And I HAD been feeling very bloated for a few days. Dh Has been sick, so he hasn't been eating with us and E and I have been eating very vegetable rich and low carb meals, some with little chicken, some vegetarian. But we were both feeling bloated because of the kinds of veggies.... Brussels sprouts, taugé (I can't remember the English word), cabbage, leek, etc. So maybe that's why. And I HAVE been stressed. I still haven't found a job, and my in-laws aren't doing well. And I'm definitely dealing with perimenopause. Hopefully it's all those combined and I'll be back on track soon.

I didn't get out yesterday because I was baking the whole day for E's birthday today. She decorated it herself when she got home. We'll, I helped with making the frosting and mixing colors and such. But she did the actual piping and such.

As for the train, yes, it's really awful, especially how often it seems to happen there in that spot. I feel so bad for the train drivers. E said they had JUST passed Wolfheze and then suddenly they were braking HARD for no reason. Then she heard/felt the impact. She said the sound was awful. She was really cold the whole evening and it was pretty warm that day, so I think there was a little bit of shock, but she had no appetite and had to force herself to eat because she felt kind of nauseated. I can't imagine what it's like for the person who was driving the train.

I think we need to use the same timing approach for other measurement methods. Like, if I always weigh myself around 8:30am, I should also be using that same time for any other loss/gain measurements to track progress. I generally try at a time when I believe I should have my best results as well. So, after a meal and later in the day probably isn't the ideal. My timing is after my morning walk, still fasted from dinner the night before, before my morning caffeine drink/water, and after using the restroom. Since I'm using the scale, I also make sure I don't have anything on that might skew results. In fact, the whole restroom angle is another one that can cause these fluctuations. Not that I'm suggesting this approach, but it's part of why you see laxative abuse in bulimics and why it's hard to get a consistent read on people with GI issues.

The cake looks great! I also see DNA in the piping :) Happy Birthday to E!!!

Hopefully she won't have to experience this again. How awful. It seems like enough of a pattern that they also should be doing more for prevention.

Yeah, I hope she never experiences it again. She's been taking this train nearly every day since September and this is the first time she was actually on a train that hit someone, so it's probably not likely to happen to her again. *knock on wood*

I'm not sure how much they can do to prevent it. People don't do it at the actual stations where people might stop them. They go further down the track where the train is already up to speed and there's no one to see them. There are usually fences and such, but people climb over them and there's no way to have security on every bit of track. I don't know how much security is at the mental facility in that town though... Perhaps they should have heavier security around the station in towns with such facilities.... I have no idea, but as soon as she said she thought they just hit something, the first thing I asked was whether they were at Wolfheze and she confirmed that. It has a reputation, so it's definitely a problem that should be on their radar.
