My comment is not a complaint about the ride or the refurb. It's in response to the instant gratification generation, who has to know things NOW and cannot wait for something to open before needing to know everything about it (See also: Starlight thread). I'm fine with what they are doing to the ride.
But where is the actual harm in what they did??? What is hurt by knowing what to expect when the ride reopens? I'd certainly rather know than have people building up unrealistic expectations or complaining about the lack of information. That happens enough as it is. If people want mystery, they can take comfort in the fact that firm closing and reopening dates haven't been announced yet.

They didn’t do that “big mock-up” simply to gather social media content. Project resources weren’t used to create content. Even calling it a “big mock-up” is more than a little hyperbolic.

They set up some targets and plastic guns in a room for media. that’s it.

It was literally said that it would have been better to let the updates be a pleasant surprise when the ride reopens in 2026. I don't understand why anyone would have a problem with being told what updates are coming. It's a weird thing to get upset about.

Let's clear the air with that - No one is upset about being told what's coming. It was merely suggested that instead of telling everyone everything, perhaps Disney could keep the changes close to the vest and let people be wow'ed once it re-opens. Maybe a week prior to the re-open, post some pics of some of the changes from clever angles to as to not give away anything, but build excitement. There's no benefit to spoiling what's coming so far in advance, other than social media clicks, because 99.999% of guests will admit - no one is booking a trip around Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, so what's the point of telling people all of what's coming?

There are some posters who think they have to know everything about a project when or before it closes and then post question after question after question and incessantly speculate about "What's happening?? What's being done????", and that's what is grating like 24-grit sandpaper.

Yes. ...the when and the how. I can't speak for others, but what I suggested was revealing this update with the attraction's reopening. "We improved things so come down and see your beloved classic with some fun upgrades."

I don't need concept art for a limited figure. I don't need vague fluff about about how the targets are being updated. Show me. Show me what you did rather than double-speakng about what you're going to do.

If you're advertising improvements and new additions over six months out, it should be something worthy booking a trip to experience. A 20-year over due upgrade to the blasters and targets that react like limited screens on Buzz isn't "grab my credit card and let me request vacation time next year" level of new.

The when and the how. No problem with Disney telling us they are improving things.

I didn’t say they created the mock-up for media. It already existed as part of the project development process. That’s it exists at the scale it does is the problem because it is part of the broken project delivery process.

What's wrong with the words they say in the Imagineering video? You're literally complaining about the social media post because the language in it is something you wouldn't say? I do wonder how you would rephrase everything in that video to present the same information?
Yeah, I am also scratching my head after watching that video again. All I can say is that I don't mind if they sometimes decide to show what they're working on when it comes to upgrades or new attractions and I expect them to talk about what they're doing enthusiastically; it would be odd if they didn't.

Are people upset because they won't have the delight of discovering them from posts on here when the attractions opens after its refurb?

They just plopped down some of the new targets on tripods in the attraction. It wasn’t elaborate or anything of significant scale.

I’m aware. Unfortunately I never got to experience it myself.

You can visit one. Book a DCL Bahamian cruise that stops at Castaway Cay. Snorkel out to about midpoint in the cove....you'll find one there, along with a sunken statue of Mickey.

What "more timely reveal" would that be? Who cares if they tell us now or in 4 months? The project resources you're referring to - is that the testing or the social media post? They need to test the blasters and targets, so that's not wasteful. Every project gets some sort of marketing budget and they didn't exactly go with some over the top production putting together that Instagram video. This all feels like a real stretch looking for anything to criticize for what is a positive development.

Plenty of guests want to know that and attraction shutting down for several months will reopen with more than just some basic maintenance having been done, so there is a benefit to telling people that it is getting some needed improvements to the most visible problems. What actual benefit is there to letting people speculate???

Just because the attraction isn't the draw that rides line Tron or GotG are doesn't mean nobody cares about it. Toy Story is still a popular franchise and Space Ranger Spin is something that families can all do together. It doesn't need to be an E-ticket for people to care about it. The effort and expense put into this marketing was very small compared to what they do for things like the rides I mentioned earlier or something like Tiana's.

If they thought this update would drive attendance then they would have done a lot more than a Disney Parks Blog post and a short social media video. If they run an ad for this during the Final Four then we can talk about how excessive their marketing efforts are.

Yep. You would show up and there was a physical board at the parking kiosks listing which attractions were closed that day. In the park you might see a sign like "returning next summer!"

I never said you said that. I said that something doesn't gave to be a major attraction for people to care about it because there has been an attitude in this thread that the ride isn't important enough to merit the extensive marketing campaign of a single blog post and a quick social media video.

The pre-internet days are in the distant past. Disney has to adapt for the reality of today, not what some posters on an internet message board (ironically enough) want. I don't understand posters on a message board devoted to WDW complaining that Disney gave them information about an attraction at WDW. Isn't that why this site and message board exist in the first place, because people want information about WDW???
