I'm not sure I would say American's are more cost conscious. Have you seen the line-ups for Popcorn buckets and the craziness that was Taylor Swift tickets? I'd say Americans (for the majority) are a wants based consumer. They will pay for the things they want and worry about paying for it later.

We are going to MK on Wednesday with a 1PM entry ticket. Can I purchase Genie+ that morning and join the virtual queue for Tron even though we can't enter the park until 1PM. Will the system know that and only give us times after 1PM? We are staying deluxe so we get the extended evening hours...

The $229 is a Florida Resident ticket. Most people can't even buy it so it's not a straight comparison.

I will spend the first half of the day doing something by a pool, relaxing and enjoying the weather. Then have an early dinner at a restaurant with food that isn't made in a park, then go to the park for a nice evening.

I will be perfectly happy with the event at Epcot. Saves me from the heat of the day and still gets me all that I want out of Epcot. We really don't like daytime at the parks anymore and will gladly spend 2-3 days just with these events on a trip.
