Man that was such an awesome part of 1.0, especially when it had the working animatronic car before it that actually slammed into the barrier and broke in real-time before. Amazing setup and payoff.
I will just say that I think MMRR did a great job blending everything together, as it doesn't feel lacking in animatronics at all to me, unlike Tiana's (especially as compared to Splash)
They had full-on iPhone-like smartphones though, so late aughts at the absolute earliest. I assume it was meant to take place in our 'current day'. Even Judy's "Shuffle" is entirely a touchscreen, which I don't think even existed?
I mostly don't disagree! I've had the exact same Luigi's Mansion thought as well.
But even accounting for the missed potential, Mario Kart is a vastly better ride than Webslingers in just about every metric: It has detailed sets, (rather than JUST staring at screens), actual animatronics...
Webslingers is barely better than a trip to the bathroom.
Mario Kart at least has sets and animatronics. It's certainly not the ride I would have wanted, but the webslinger comparisons are killing me. Though ironically it may be more Nintendo-like given the entire thing is about "waggle" lol
The guy who designed it also designed the rest of Animal Kingdom (obviously, I know he didn't do it alone). Perhaps what he was aiming for wasn't exactly what you were expecting, but I wouldn't say it's poorly laid out
I mean, we didn't die. It's a fakeout (unless you think the outside was heaven? lol).
Anyways, in one sense, I agree with you that 1.0 didn't exactly fit the optimistic sci-fi vibes of that era's Epcot, but it was still at least educational. The ride actually educated while it entertained, and...
Seeing these reactions is getting me hyped. I might actually refrain from watching most of the ridethrough so I can experience this in person (eventually).
I feel like this complaint doesn't really match the reality nearly as often as it's said to? WDW has/had the bigger and better Tower of Terror, Splash Mountain, very likely Pandora, Jungle Cruise, and plenty of attractions that are essentially on par if not the same: Haunted Mansion, Galaxy's...
Does anyone know how they scheduled it? Is there only one Sweetums at a time? Is there a backup if someone calls in sick? Are they in costume the whole time? Do they do anything between shows?
I get that, but conversely, it was already 95%+ the same ride path as Indiana Jones. So if it can work for Dinosaur in can work again (...for Indiana Jones again lol)
