You’re not understanding, I take full responsibility for my choices (or lack thereof) but my husband still works and can bring it home (delta is carried by vaccinated people too) to the kids. If I get covid, I brought it on myself and hopefully won’t die for it- but my kids have no choice .

If you get COVID, you are likely to have a higher viral load significantly increasing the risk to your kids, so you have decided to increase their risk. You were mad that your husband didn’t know when he was going back to work. Mad that he could go back to work. Now mad when others are doing the easy thing you refuse to do.

As a practical matter, businesses just won't do this. It was difficult enough for some of them to enforce across-the-board mask mandates when they were subject to fines and penalties for not doing so. They're not going to start checking vaccination status and then seat unvaccinated people outside or force them to wear masks. I'm not saying it's impossible or that some businesses wouldn't try it, but I don't believe this would be a practical solution on a large scale.

Oh I know, as much as I would wish it, it was probably more satirical. At this point I think people just need to realize nothing's going to be done. You're only option is to get vaccinated or just go get covid. The governments are done, the businesses are done, the people are done. It is what it is at this point. Everybody has a viable option for protection. If they don't do it it is what it is. What really stinks about the whole thing is the kids, but luckily their hospitalization and death rates are exceedingly low still.

Some regions will probably institute mask command dates again, But the ones that really need to won't. And without that level of government protection, businesses won't. And we already know the people won't. So I'm of the mindset it's really not worth complaining about, it's not worth the stress about it either.

I get confused by this - when does a company's private rights to allow entry come into play? Does that fall under Florida law - they can't discriminate against the unvaccinated?

Here is the relevant portion of the recently passed Florida law:

"A business entity, as defined in s. 768.38 to include any business operating in this state, may not require patrons or customers to provide any documentation certifying COVID-19 vaccination or post-infection recovery to gain access to, entry upon, or service from the business operations in this state."

It's why I have no empathy for what's going on. Everyone brought this on themselves. While I'm fully vaccinated, I have no interest in visiting any time soon. Even after the border reopens. My 1 year old can't get vaccinated so I refuse to take to her to a place where so many people aren't vaccinated.

Yes, but they would be denying entry to a portion of the business which might run afoul of the law.

Now I don't expect Disney to do this, but it is interesting point of discussion.

Where are we at with that? Having a successful treatment option can also be a key player in getting back to normal.

Given the exemptions for theme park operators in the recent social media law, it seems Disney and Universal could have pushed for their own exemption from the passport ban.

No, people are still working on this, but you just don't hear much about it. Viral infections are notoriously hard to treat. It's mainly about treating the symptoms to give your body a chance to fight the infection.

And I disagree. Having a governor who won’t mitigate things to possibly save children’s lives… is part of the problem.

No mitigation (short of complete lockdown/isolation) is going to stop the possibility of spread to children. Also, look at the statistics. Unless your children are under 12 (therefore can not be vaccinated) and have some kind of pre-existing medical problem they are at practically zero risk from COVID for anything worse than a flu-like illness.

For the entire pandemic to date in the State of Florida, there have been seven (yeah seven) deaths caused by COVID in people under 16 years old. There is no breakdown for under 12. It is possible that there aren't any deaths in people in the age group not eligible for vaccination. The old reports had the ages broken down with more granularity.

It singles out COVID-19 because businesses contemplating vaccine passports has never been a thing for any other disease. Proving that I've had the MMR vaccine would be very difficult as an adult. I was vaccinated in NY before entering school by a pediatrician who died a few years ago. I don't think getting the records would even be possible.

We've never had a measles, mumps, or rubella pandemic, though. Of the three, only measles has a significant mortality associated with it, and even this is orders of magnitude less than COVID.

The fact that vaccine passports were ruled out before even receiving serious discussion was a complete failure of government to lead from the front, rather than cowering from behind the worst tendencies of the electorate.

I know that. I was just asking because we used to hear about possible treatments and haven't heard anything in quite a while.

They tried many pre-existing antivirals early in the pandemic, but none really worked. Many pinned their hopes on remdesivir, but it didn't hold up. The only success has been with monoclonal antibodies in preventing serious infections, and standard sepsis protocols plus corticosteroids in preventing death in those who are critically ill.
