They are lifting capacity limits. Masks and social distancing will remain in NY.

"New York will keep its overarching social distancing requirement pursuant to CDC recommendations except in the case of gatherings at events where all individuals present proof of full immunization or recent negative COVID test results. Indoor face coverings will also remain the norm in the state for the time being."

NY 48.3%
NJ 52.2%
CT 55.6%
FL 42.3%

All 3 of those states will be north of 50% vaccinated by May 19. FL will not. NY has seen a 60% reduction in the 7 day daily case average since April 1. Cases are trending steadily down. In FL the 7 day daily case average is about the same today as it was April 1. The trend is pretty much just flat. There’s not an obvious trend down. In other words NY can point to vaccination rate and case trend to justify why restrictions that existed April 1 can be reduced by May 19. In FL not much has changed. At least there isn’t a major spike in cases. There is no rational justification for prohibiting restrictions. Just a political stunt.

1) Paywalls didn't used to exist. Where many stories are propagated through the AP, they appear on multiple websites but are sometimes difficult to find.

2) Pursuant to 17 U.S. Code § 107, certain uses of copyrighted material "for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright."

Pretty sure what forum users do with news articles would fall under the above.

Also, it's not as if people are passing off news stories as their own thoughts - sources are cited, linked, and given proper credit.

I'm hopeful people will stay home when sick more than they did before but I don't think it will happen. They're already sick so a lot of people just carry on their usual errands. We went to a restaurant once before covid and a lady literally had tissues, cough drops and theraflu on her table. We overheard her talking about being diagnosed with influenza earlier that day.

Smh.

The day that was the sickest I ever felt, I had a dinner reservation at Club 33. The opportunity to have another meal there has never come up in the 21 years since. Although I did a couple years later, attend a breakfast event, physically in the club, but not the full experience. I just wished I was with it to remember to order alcohol with my dinner. It probably would have helped.

Unfortunately this was politicized from the beginning and there are a lot of people who still would rather listen to some politicians then the scientists and true experts. No amount of threatening or shaming or anything else will get them to get vaccinated until they want to. If they every do.

We don’t need those people. It would be nice if they changed their mind, but they most likely won’t. If we are at 30-40% of adults currently uninterested and 20% of those people are in the camp you describe so be it. It’s the other 10-20% that we need to focus on. That means the difference between 60% and 80% vaccinated. We won’t get them all but any percent over half gets us over 70% vaccinated. I’m convinced that we can still get the national average of eligible people vaccinated over 70% and maybe even to 75%. The apathetic and cautious groups can be reached and convinced to come in. Carrots for the apathetic and education for the cautious. The people hell bent of resisting and driven by politics won’t be convinced and we shouldn’t waste our time trying. Actually we should just ignore them completely. They enjoy the attention given to them by people pushing the vaccine.

There is under a 10% drop in daily cases since March 1 and it’s just about flat since April 1.

Honest question, why would you consider anything that Morgan Stanley says with more than a grain of salt when it comes to herd-immunity?

We have experts claiming we are already seeing the inflection point and decline with our very eyes right now. Still work to be done obviously but I really don't care what a multi billion dollar company has to say about infectious disease. We are in great shape and will be even better in the coming months.
