I just can’t fathom how the cruise line handles an anti-masker. We’ve all seen/heard stories of passengers that take their mask off mid-flight, or the Disney guest that sheds his mask when he’s alllllll the way in the back of the park. Those situations are resolved quickly.

What repercussions are there for someone who behaves like that on a cruise ship?

Modern Cruise ships have brigs and Security. These situations did not create unruly people(after all, most cruise lines are used to it when they serve copious amounts of alcohol.

What "harbor" would want to take a ship full of "sick people"?

Most didn't and kept ships with people dying hanging out in the water. Some politicians didn't want them because it'd make the numbers of infected and dead look bad (this was when the numbers were in the hundreds, not the tens of thousands).

But, eventually, they did find harbor and medical aid after shaming the pols for their lack of humanitarianism.

The Conditional Restrictions tell the cruise line to work out ahead of time with whatever jurisdictions who's going to take them in and what protocols are in place if there's a sick boat.

So, if FL wants cruise money tourism, it'll have to make a deal in which they designate where a sick boat would dock and how the sick will get treated. Probably with the cruise line paying in advance for that perk. And to spell out the protocols if that happens.

Basically, the CDC is saying "no more sick boats at sea with people dying and no where to go."

Just thinking out loud here. But lets say Disney starts using some sort of vaccine passport post-pandemic. How are they going to deal with some vaccines not being as effective as others? Like are they going to deny entry if you got the J&J jab while Disney may prefer Pfizer or Moderna because their more effective? Gonna be really curious to see how this all works.

At some point we have to get to where it’s the responsibility of each individual or family to make their own decisions about how they want to feel safe (or not). Just like with everything else we do in life.

I know they like putting up dividers and plastic shields and tape on the ground for safety theater to make people feel safer and attract guests who feels safe because of all that, but at some point disney just needs to have guests who want to enter the parks sign or acknowledge something saying they are not held responsible for any illness and let’s get back to “normal” and let us decide if or when we want to visit

It is each of our responsibility to make our own decisions on what and where we feel safe, that hasn’t changed. I can go to the store, or have it delivered. We all make those decisions daily. As for Disney, they already have the waiver on their website. If you enter Disney you are doing it at your own risk. So that’s been in place.
It’s the end of March,2021... can we please stop with the safety theater comments? Please? We all don’t like them but it’s all been proven by science. Some don’t help a lot but still help.. others help immensely. Life pretty much back to normal in Israel and the R number is still falling! Now at 0.55! Vaccines work! The quicker everyone is vaccinated the quicker we get back to normal that is what true herd immunity looks like

I know from cruising back in the day I along with other passengers were eating and drinking all day/ night so if I were to wear a mask it would probably be off half the time. I've already got both my Moderna shots, still mask up like before the vaccine shots but I have no desire to get back on a boat. When I used to cruise some cruise lines had all you can drink options ( alcoholic and non alcoholic ) so some fellow guests had a cup glued to their hand during parts of the day/night.

There wasn’t a different first priority here unless I’m mistaken and some places did it differently. The issue comes in if you make that your only priority. I’ve seen numerous people say that once the elderly and high risk are vaccinated we are done and all restrictions can be removed and life can return to normal. That’s not a very good plan. We need to get a large number of people vaccinated to actually beat down the virus. Returning to “normal” while covid cases rage is risky and devastating for the economy.

It's amazing that's discussion at all. We know people who were otherwise healthy dropping dead within two weeks of getting Covid-19 who have left behind spouses and school age children.

I agree, but I’ve seen numerous people post things like that here and in other social media circles and the other day a US Senator said something along the same lines. It’s crazy to me that some people still believe that because you are more likely to become seriously ill or die from Covid if you are high risk and/or elderly that means if you are young and healthy there’s no risk. I just hope enough people who feel that way get the vaccine anyway or we may come up short and delay our return to normal.

That can happen if the cases drop low enough. If the cases stay higher a large number of people won’t return. Putting aside personal feelings and looking at WDW as a business, they can’t “return to normal” if a large group of their target demographic won’t come. When WDW first opened last Summer many people who went were thrilled to go and have most rides as walk ons but they couldn’t even hit the really low capacity limits. The guests who went were happy but it was a far cry from “normal” WDW. So putting any legal liability and damage to reputation aside Disney could just remove all safety protocols today if they wanted to, but that would only delay an actual return to normal. Some people would be happy to go anyway, many other people wouldn’t. Disney is going to do what’s best for the business in the medium to long term. Families with kids who aren’t even eligible to be vaccinated yet are not going to return in numbers if the parks aren’t thought of as “safe”. Some people don’t care, but “some people“ doesn’t get Disney back to something resembling normal. If they want to fill high priced hotel rooms and bring in out of state guests they need to keep the reputation of being safe.

Yes. Also keeping an eye on India, which could be ground zero in the next week or two.

We can vaccinate the heck out of everyone here and in Europe, but still lots of virus out there, and lots of opportunity to mutate. I’m not sure vaccines will win the race against variants.
But if not, I’m more optimistic than ever about some of the treatment options being trialed. These treatments will back up the vaccine effort, and reduce the severity enough to get back to normal life.

It’s great data and news from them these results are from just over 50 percent of the whole population fully vaccinated it hints that the herd immunity threshold is between 50 and 60 percent which should be totally achievable

Brazil does look bad, though their current surge is just now getting to where the US was in mid January. Hopefully it turns around for them.

Going to the airport recently where we all lined up 6ft apart to check in and board and then cram the plane full next to each other made no sense to me so that’s why I think some of it is whatever looks and makes people feel good whether it is or not

I know it’s bad. I received the vaccine the other day. I get it but a lot I don’t and I think unfortunately a lot of it is still political and over the top with such a high survival rate. Just my opinion. Hoping the new Pfizer drugs pill form will help keep those who do get it from potentially being hospitalized so then the severity will seem less

I get all of that but it’s going to be interesting to see who makes the first lesser restriction move (Uni or Disney) because the other will likely have to follow soon thereafter

virus risk or not disney will likely remain as is capacity wise until they can bring back night shows parades and remove the masks as many will not pay the same for less of the experience

Airplanes have pretty strong downflow of air, so it mingles less with air in the seats before and behind you and they ahve HEPA filtration of all the air with a pretty high turnover rate. none of that is true in the terminal.

Just because "the science" isn't immediately obvious or understandable doesn't mean it isn't there.

i know planes have better filtration but that air isn’t always moving. We boarded the plane and sat there for about 20-30 minutes next to one another before the air flow kicked on. Just because someone’s science findings can be there doesn’t mean it always is
