Trip Report The ONE with the Bowl that was not so Super šŸš½ 2/5-2/9, 2021*COMPLETED*

HA HA HA!!!
Hello everybody! I returned yesterday from a last minute long weekend to WDW.
How? Who? Why? You ask. Well my Magical friends, here is everything you want to know, and maybe some things, you donā€™t.

It all began a few weeks ago at work when my bff/boss suggested we go to Disney for his birthday. I took him last year and we had a great time. We looked at dates and flights and room rates and hemmed and hawed for a couple days. We decided we would go Presidentā€™s weekend. But my kids would be out of school and they would want to go. Then, texting with @Tuvalu she said ā€œyouā€™re going presidentā€™s weekend!?!?šŸ˜³šŸ˜³šŸ˜³ā€

Ok, she didnā€™t say it like that but that is how I heard it in my mind. I said to my friend, M, ā€œwhat the heck are we thinking? Letā€™s go the weekend before.ā€ His sister/business partner/my other boss gave her blessing (then promptly booked a whole week in Florida for herself at the end of the month) and we started looking at rooms.
Pop was cheap with the AP discount so I booked.

We picked out our flights, then added a day and picked out new flights. Friday came, my day off and two weeks before departure and we had decided on everything. All we had to do was book the flights, which were $69 each way. Then I looked again and the flights were down to $49 each way. I texted M, ā€œBOOK BOOK BOOK! This is not a drill!!!ā€

Then Saturday came and I canceled Pop and booked a studio at Saratoga Springs Resort using my DVC points. Bought Mā€™s park ticket and made park reservations and some ADRā€™s. I also filled out the Magical Express request form and ordered a couple t-shirts.

13 days to go and we were all set.

We made it to DS and headed straight for Pin Traders to see if Mā€™s nieces wanted anything. You all remember R from my last trip? R is Mā€™s niece.

These were the newest magic bands.

I was partial to this one:

I bought the DVC, AP and Chase Visa exclusive pins and we moved on to Tren D.
Deep Royal blue (almost purple) is the color of the moment. Hmmmmm...what does this color remind me of???šŸ°
Anyhow, the new collection is celebrating 40 years of make-a-wish and I loved it all but bought nothing.

They kept the blue going for Sorcerer Mickey. (Rā€™s fave so many pix were texted to her).

I am dumbfounded. These ears, the ones with the cork. What and who are they? When I think of cork all I can think of is Hamm. Pretty sure these arenā€™t the ā€œHamm earsā€šŸ˜‚

At some point we moved on to a very empty WOD.

These were so cozy looking buuuut, I donā€™t wear black (it washes me out), the blue was very blue and white, well, white does not stay white very long.
A couple days later I saw a kids version (so cute!) with a hood in red, which I also never wear at home (donā€™t ask).

M loves poutine. I (usually) love poutine. Lets get some poutine!
We shared a poutine, Labattā€™s and some water. The poutine was not great. The gravy was cold and coagulated.

We continued on and I saw this sign. I struggled to take a selfie, my arm just wasnā€™t long enough. But a nice man walked by and offered to take the picture for me.

We walked by Jock Lindsayā€™s and I asked if they had room for us to come in and have a drink. They did!

We had a nice table on the outside deck overlooking the water. It was nice and peaceful.

We each picked a drink off the menu.

Some of you might have read about my quest for a signature holiday drink. Well, during that quest I bought a bottle of blue curaƧao and used it a lot. I wanted to see what Jock could do with it. This was good. Light and refreshing.

Mā€™s was the winner. It was sooooo good!

We also ordered a pretzel. It was ok. It was missing something. Oh yeah! SALT!!!
Who makes a big ole pretzel and does not put pretzel salt on it??? Dang, doesnā€™t Jock know salt makes you thirsty? And when you are thirsty you buy more over priced drinks???

My general M.O. is to hop on the wagon after New Year. Usually I wait until mid March to start drinking again (except February Disney trips) so the Coors Light was a warm up. If I was a runner, consider it a 5K before I do the marathon. šŸƒšŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

:hilarious:
I canā€™t even remember the last time I had a light beer... šŸ¤”
I havenā€™t been on the wagon for almost 30 years...how my liver isnā€™t as hard as a carp, I have no clue, but, my bloodwork 2 months ago said my liver function was fine...!!!!! šŸ¤£

M and I took our beers out to the patio to enjoy.

We then poured a few roadies

and headed out to walk to Disney Springs.

A room down the hall had these decorations. We took pictures and sent them to Mā€™s sister who had celebrated her 60th a few days earlier.

Along the way we met a new friend:

ā€œIs it poisonous?ā€, he asked.
Meanwhile, I am saying how cute it isšŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Like you need me to šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø;), but, I approve of the ale upgrade...!!!!! :hilarious:

And, although my dear DWifey is deadly ā€˜fraid of ā€˜em and Iā€™m not...

We left Jockā€™s (we are on a first name basis nowšŸ˜‰) and headed back out into DS where we window shopped.
Loved this Man City jersey!

Not a huge nike fan and these did not do it for me. @Billy6 would you wear these?

We reached the end of DS so we sat down at the outside bar at City Works. I have been dying to eat here since it opened and have had to cancel multiple reservations for one reason or another. However, I will take what I can get, and today it was a drink at the bar in the sunshine (it was chilly so the šŸŒž felt great).
Also, during my holiday drink quest I came across the French 75? French 15? whatever it is called. I purchased the ingredients and tinkered. I wanted to see if it tasted better when a professional made it.

Our bartenderā€™s name was Christine and she asked if I wanted it traditional or on ice.
ā€œWhy would you put it on ice?ā€
ā€œWhen itā€™s warm out.ā€
ā€œWellā€, I answered, ā€œthere is a sliver of sun. I will try it on ice.ā€

We shared it. It was light and refreshing. This would be good at the beach with a bacon, egg and cheese.

We had a dinner reservation at the Edison. I had never been and the menu is M approved. One thing about Mā€™s eating habits, that is, his diet. It is awful. Terrible. Picky picky picky. He wonā€™t eat chicken! But he will eat a tuna fish sandwichšŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø
Therefore, any place we ate had to have something for M. The Edison had a burger which he eatsšŸ‘

On the way, I saw some old friends:

When you enter the Edison you actually enter on the second floor, but you think itā€™s the first I guess. Like MK. So we enter and descend into an artificially lit space. Yuck. It felt like we were in NYC. Double yuck. I did not care for the vibe because, we are in Florida, there arenā€™t basements. No dry ones at least.

There was music. I have heard worse and I have heard way better!

I got another of those French drinks. This one was served in an old fashioned champagne glass and more ended up on the table than in our mouthsšŸ˜‚
4B235ACA-BCB0-4C76-BAF0-526E98A06779.jpeg

French Fries are M approved. Loaded FF are really M approved. We got some to share as an appetizer. I did not really want french fries, we already had poutine, but with Mā€™s limited palate I made the sacrifice.
C8654196-F9B0-443B-A023-FDE2500F814B.jpeg

They were good but we only ate about half. We boxed up the rest to take back to the room. My son was still planning on coming and if he ended up in the room to watch the game he could heat up the leftovers for a snack.
When ordering, M was wary of the description of his burger.
ā€œWhatā€™s brisket?ā€
ā€œItā€™s beef. It is just a different cut of beef. They put that in there so they can justify charging so much for a burger.ā€
M got the burger...and fries.
622B710F-847A-4FB0-BFF6-C038AD36FBD2.jpeg

I got the brisket.
E3633257-E931-45C7-A919-5ECD0416998A.jpeg

I was pretty full. I took a few bites, it was cold and a little bland so I ate the veggies and packed the mash and beef to go (more food for my son).

As our food was delivered we needed another drink. We had been trying a few different things and I wasnā€™t sure what to get. I was way too full for beer. Trying to keep it simple I ordered a Titos and seltzer with lime.
D54C284B-6015-4243-B5EA-F182E7944660.jpeg

See how wet the table is? That was from the other drink. I had more of it on my hand then in my stomach.
I took a sip.
oooooh. Yowza!!!
M took a sip.
Here is his reaction:

I think they forgot the seltzer!!!
M went to the menā€™s room. The lady at the next table had a drink that looked the exact opposite of this Titos and seltzer. ie, light on the alcohol.
I ordered one to go with an extra cup on the side and made two drinks out of the Titos. Problem solved.

We paid and headed out. BTW, our server was formerly from Long Island so we had a good time talking to him. He said he used to work three jobs just to pay his rent and now he just has the one.

I am not a huge cake fan but we stopped.
87D02ED9-D019-4C6F-90E3-D4E0F2B2AE7D.jpeg

We got two different kinds. A chocolate something and another chocolate something... ā€œdo you want sprinkles on that?ā€
ā€œUmmmm, isnā€™t the name of the store SPRINKLES?ā€
šŸ˜Š
We passed the Hawaiian jewelry store. Hoku something er other. I have a beautiful bracelet from them that I got in Hawaii when we went to Aulani so I always look in the window when I pass by.

This particular necklace, for some reason, gave me the urge to say ā€œhail hydraā€.
šŸ˜‚

Then we went to Ron Jon. My kids love Ron Jon so I face timed them and let them pick something out. Mā€™s sister has a lot of beach themed plaques in her house (they spend a lot of time in Aruba) so we picked something out for her.
And I got one...wishful thinking!!!

Next stop was Goofyā€™s. My kids favorite just above Ron Jon. The plan: get candy for the boys for Valentineā€™s day.
63C2EE34-9460-480D-8519-FED4CE75BE5B.jpeg

I got the candy but it did not make it to Valentineā€™s day. Fast forward-They were waiting up when I got home. They knew I would get them candy so I handed it over and said ā€œhappy Valentineā€™s day!ā€

We left Goofyā€™s and walked back to Saratoga Springs. On the way I face timed my oldest to see who was coming with him the next day.

When M and I returned to our room we cut up the cupcakes to share. šŸ‘ŽšŸ‘Žfrom me. I only had a small bite of each. I found them to be very dry and life is too short for dry cake!
I felt great! Full and tired but we had had a fun first day. I drank some water, grabbed another bottle to put on my nightstand and retired for the night. It was early, just before 9:30, but tomorrow morning I would be up early to try for a RotR BG.

I WAS SO EXCITED TO SEE THAT YOU STARTED YOUR TR!!! You had an amazing first day with the room upgrade and the fun afternoon/evening at DS. Glad to see you got to enjoy so many cocktails! I can tell that R is having the best time with you already. Can't wait to see if you got a Board Group for ROTR!!!
