Ummm...so this *is* how the zombies start?

PS. 1 hour 50 minutes between getting in the queue, and getting our box of In-N-Out comfort food. They had the queue set up like a Washington State Ferry line. ~20 rows of 6 cars that they would feed into the main parking lot, which began as 3 lines, that would merge into the main drive thru line (where the people with ordering pads were set up). I told DH, they should totally have vaccine distribution in the line.

Love In-n-Out. I visit one whenever I go to California. I know they expanded out of California. They are privetly owned, and they make sure their distribution centers are close to their stores to keep it fresh.
Given their rate of expansion I doubt I will see them in Florida for a very, very long time.

Any candidate that hasn’t started a phase 3 trial in the US may already need to go abroad to do their clinical trials. As other vaccines become readily available it will be hard to get trial participants to sign up.

I got the vibe even from AstraZeneca when they called that they were getting more turn downs than expected. He was very disappointed when I said I couldn't join due to the other. So it's already likely hard.

Am I correct in saying that the second shot is worse (physical reaction) than the first?

Assuming I did not have the placebo, it is worse but not a huge amount worse. I was warned by the trial people about it. I slept poorly both times due to arm pain (side sleeper that constantly switches sides) so I cannot say if I felt worse or not. Arm pain was very similar though but started faster.

Not wanting to get into a political discussion but Is it possible that part of the problem could be people crossing the border into the US and flooding the hospitals?

Spiking and ICU shortages are happening all over the U.S.

Are border crossers heading directly for Wisconsin and North Dakota?

I know I'm going out on a limb here, but Mexicans do drive cars and some of them do have passports and yes they do come to the US to get better healthcare.

The city "shut down" again just before Thankgiving. Now is the time where we are seeing the pre-shut down effects. Add all the thanksgiving gatherings in there and you have this terrible recipe.

I am no expert but have read a bit about the hospital shortage in California. The issues isn’t Mexicans but more that LA has not properly funded hospitals for years and operates almost full on normal days. So any surge is a disaster. They just don’t have the capacity for a crisis - which is an issue many have fought against in CA politics. Funding hospitals/ healthcare employees has been an issue for some time and now it is biting them in the rear

You also forgot to mention free. By law hospitals also cannot turn away individuals seeking medical attention. It does not matter if they don't have means to pay for it but you already know that.

Here’s one thing I don’t understand, and maybe one of you health care types can fill me in......where I live, flu is basically nonexistent so far. Granted, it wouldn’t be Jan-Feb numbers yet, but there should still be a good bit. Local health officials are saying social distancing and mask wearing are keeping the numbers down. However, Covid is way up, and local health officials are saying it is due to not wearing masks and social distancing. How can we have both of those mutually exclusive results at the same time?

Flu didn’t get the chance to get a foothold this year due to restrictions and also the fact that most guys had stay at home learning. The normal outbreaks of URI, sinusitis, influenza that I usually see starting about 2 weeks after kids started school hasn’t really happened because many kids weren’t in school. COVID has been around for a long time so it’s already had a chance to spread just about anywhere and those that don’t follow the guidelines have a very high chance to get it.

After 20 years of successful rehab I think he has earned the right not have that brought up. The guy is/was sick and like so many chose drugs to cope with it

I don't think you have to look far, masks and distancing with enhanced cleaning DOES work for bugs other than covid
