As part of a larger effort in WDW's Adventureland to create a more cohesively themed and culturally sensitive environment (which will include the removal of the Magic Carpets to create Polynesian Plaza and a revamped Tiki Room show written by Lin Manuel Miranda), The Agrabah Bazaar will be replaced with the Ote'a Marketplace, inspired by the traditional Tahitian dance (Ote'a), where the cast members dance as they help guests shop for general Adventureland merchandise and teach the young ones a few moves.​

Goch’s African Trinkets (Real prompt)​

George Goch; a former pilot of the RAF and a member of the Society of Knowledge and Yearning; is an aviator who travels to and from Africa, exploring its many regions and has set up a freight depot and store; where buyers and browsers would see paintings of many African landscapes, beasts and people, a large mural of a caravan of merchants across the Sahara, old photos of Gogh’s days in the Royal Air Force and of him becoming a member into S.K.Y., charts and maps that reference members and certain locations of DisneySky, wooden statues of some of the several deities and animals that call Africa home; one such idol is that of a demon with a sharp toothed crocodile for a head and; who after sunset; appears to come alive indicated to occasional snickering that is heard at his shelf and his eyes have been darting back and forth across the room (literally, as one moment his eyes might be on the leading merchant of the Saharan caravan before moving onto a painting of a Lion or a wooden sculpture of jengu (a mermaid from Western Africa) or even George Goch himself, and even a large terrarium that is home to a Redheaded Agama called Joka (whose name is Swahili for “dragon” and is named for his fiery temper and would be seen once an hour thanks to advanced technology mixing practical and digital effects and would entertain guests with his antics, wether he’s finding the perfect sunbathing spot, going for a swim or eating a cricket who has other ideas); to export clothing, sundries, books, home decor, and toys related to Africa (much like with Mombasa Marketplace, genuine imports would be utilized for most African related merchandise) and S.K.Y..

Added to appeal to the original image of Adventureland being dedicated to the jungles of Asia and Africa, Tadoba Temple Trinkets is a temple based gift shop themed after Hindu temples with an abandoned and overgrown looking exterior, but to avoid controversy based on religion, the temple has no assigned god, with the shop selling regional items like Madhubani Paintings, Handicraft Puppets, Dibbis, and the likes.​

The Enchanted Tiki Room Backstage is a shop that shows what the mischievous Macaws (represented by less detailed/expressive but still recognizable animatronics) get up to between shows (of course the shop stays open during shows but eh), as they (live actors) comment on guests & even occasionally chat (though José is just caught resting), selling items appealing to both casual & hardcore fans, from figures of the birds & tikis (including the tiki goddess) to Dole Whip mix & scented pineapple candles, in conclusion this shop located inside a jungle hut has a little something for everyone.​

Raya’s Curious Creature Corral

Housed within an ancient Southeast Asian inspired temple covered in overgrown plants and trees lies this rather unusual “shop”; guests will be able to come in and discover the various magical creatures from the world of Raya and the Last Dragon including baby dragons hidden with eggs (think hatchimals), juvenile phoenixes (puppets ala a banshee), and pygmy fuzzy four legged creatures (you can see it below) to name a few - so venture now to Raya’s Curious Creature Corral, and adopt your own creature!

This tropical themed hide-away located next to the Tiki Room specializes in island themed clothing such as traditional and Disney-fied Hawaiian shirts, shorts and hats, Tiki Room and Jungle Cruise themed merch, as well as water bottles to stay hydrated on whatever adventures this land will take you; or if you need a rest from the adventures take a seat around the centerpiece of the shop - a tropical fish tank including the Hawaiian state fish the shop is named for.​

S.E.A. is always a good go-to, especially in Adventureland. They offer the perfect way to add in backstory and to connect various disparate attractions – as you’ve done by including Indiana Jones. Your write-up wisely emphasizes stuff like in-store documents. The included image (love Magellan’s!) imbues your shop with stately, Old World ambiance. There’s not much else to say (that’s the problem with shops, really), but this is definitely hitting all the notes I was anticipating.​

Through a dramatic tusk archway, guests (backed by elephant trumpets and tribal drums, the Sounds of Adventure™) discover the Watusi Village Marketplace, a collection of small African huts which each sell a different type of authentic, handmade goods, and you can watch craftsmen carve wood figures, assemble instruments (and play them, inspiring guests to dance on down to the nearest cashier), create jewelry, and paint clay pottery, right then and there.

The African tribal setting is a good, unique Adventureland local…it’s wonderful how much breadth this land allows! The tusk archway (morbid as it is – from the Ankole-Watusi cattle breed?) is an iconic visual that neatly implies the overall shop aesthetic.

And yet your real focus here – most of anyone I think – is on merchandise. While that wasn’t emphasized in the prompt, it’s of course a thoughtful inclusion which shows solid attention-to-detail. With live artisans and interactive merch like instruments, your Marketplace is sure to be a headlining shopping experience. Heck, you’ll get more walk-ins, and thus more purchases! A good approach to this challenge.​

Come curious friends, to this ancient tiki shrine, home to a trove of gifts from the divine, related to colourful birds, furious tiki heads, and brought together by a certain demigod of the wind and tides.

Ah, the anticipated Tiki Room store. It’s definitely welcome. You only imply the Tiki Room connection, while also making indirect nods to similar goodies like Moana and Mystic Manor. All these combine together well, and make for a good shop foundation.

If we wanted to expand upon this – because that would help the shop stand out more clearly in my mind – we could see how Disneyland’s recent Tiki Juice Bar expands on the nearby Tiki Room. What more could we do? Animatronic “barker” birds. Jokey décor to aid in world building. Merchandise like Dole Whip recipe books (sudden random thought) or stuffed birdies. We can have a lot of fun with your idea!​

Inspired by The Jungle Book, this shop offers Disney character merchandise -- particularly characters from films like The Jungle Book, The Lion King and Tarzan -- and sundries and other park necessities in an old temple setting, with lush trees, a small indoor waterfall and murals depicting scenes from the classic animated feature.

I am certainly getting a strong sense of place here. The lush temple and waterfall add just the right degree of realism to make the animated characters work. I can already feel the breeze and the cool tropical air…which is most welcome because it was 110 degrees today ! The merchandise is also presented well. Disney is always looking to capitalize on the widest range of IPs, and you make that possible for them in an artful, unobtrusive way. While it’s apples-to-oranges comparing Baloo’s Bazaar to Tarzan’s Treehouse at Disneyland, as an example, I far prefer your way of bringing cartoons into a non-cartoon land.​

Named after the gift shop once featured in Critter Country at Disneyland, the wisecracking skippers one meets on the Jungle Cruise have (in an attempt to make a quick buck) opened a gift shop near the attraction's exit featuring a large supply of merchandise, from plush animals to t-shirts with "I SURVIVED THE WORLD-FAMOUS JUNGLE CRUISE" written on them - and even if one doesn't buy anything, the shop is filled to the brim with enough in-jokes and hidden surprises to make it worth stopping by as you explore Adventureland.

Another line drive right down the middle! Tons of details, backstory, and attraction tie-ins? Check! Like with the Skipper Canteen in Magic Kingdom, Jungle Cruise is a rich and largely untapped vein for inspiration. I love the inevitable jokey tone you’ve struck. I especially like how the skippers’ capitalist greed becomes a bit of a meta-gag. This could become a commentary/joke on the whole idea of Disney shops!

The recycled name from Critter Country is a minor thing, but it shows the care you put into this.​

Using S.K.Y. in a (successful) attempt to woo the judge? Appreciated, but unnecessary. S.K.Y. is really just a S.E.A. offshoot. Your proposal doesn’t need the boost anyway.

By the way, I am actively working on a DisneySky presentation which I intend to premier after the Competition ends. It’s not to the unrealistic standards I first set, but it still represents many hundreds of pages and many square feet of hand drawn illustration.

You and I clearly both see shops as a way to thread backstory into a land. The incredibly in-depth history of George Goch takes that to the next level! This will be enough to fuel years of think pieces by [WEBSITE CENSORED BY WDWMAGIC]. But there’s plenty here to casual guests too, including several kinetic & interactive displays. My favorite bit is Joka the Agama. He’s just the sort of extra touch which Disney excels at, like this generation’s Shrunken Ned. We need Joka plushies!

Your merch game is on point too, from basic souvenirs down to genuine imports. Bravo.​

Indy is probably not happy about this shop but nestled near the Indiana Jones Adventure ride guests can find this shop full of unique artifacts/ antiques (as if it was rare things Indy has found throughout his adventures) as well as a few easter eggs to the movies - such as moving the Ark of the Covenant or the Holy Grail.

Indiana Jones Adventure is a natural fit for a shop. The Easter eggs and the ambiance write themselves. I would like to know what sort of structure this is in…if it’s a temple antechamber, an archaeological dig supply tent, a jungle bazaar, or something else. And who’s running this place? Surely it’s not Indy himself, but someone decidedly more unscrupulous. Are there any interactive artifacts which are “off limits?” There is a whole lot of mythos to draw from with Indy, even if we’re limiting ourselves to the Forbidden Eye story.​

Another Jungle Cruise post-ride shop, not unlike what @Brer Panther gifted us. In contrast to that proposal, which focused on souvenirs and jokey Easter eggs, your attention has gone to the setting itself. Two moored boats – surely with some redesign for easier access – make for a memorable & unlikely marketplace. Thinking back to some advice which a real Imagineer (Thordarson) game our Armchair Imagineering community many years ago, this is an arresting & improbable image…which could go further. How about a decommissioned boat which has gotten tangled up in the vines of a rubber tree? A boiler engine repurposed as a display shelf? We could go wild with this!​

Your goofball obsession with dance parties has unexpectedly paid off in spades this time! This idea sizzles!

I applaud this overall push to make Adventureland more culturally sensitive…the original mishmash of various continents & stereotypes is among Adventureland’s few remaining problems. If it means additional improvements like removing Magic Carpets? All the better! You have used this shop prompt to secretly make a whole lot of other things better too, which is a very smart strategy.

The shop itself is good too. Dancing cast members roaming the aisles? Maybe it’s a bit improbable, but it’s an arresting image. The mere idea of a Polynesian marketplace, though not explored in great depth, is very intriguing just as a suggestion. This is the sort of description which is instantly tactile and easy to envision.​

Of the various Jungle Cruise shops, this has my favorite setting. The grotto marketplace shows Man & Nature coexisting, which is a classic Adventureland theme. There is a lot which could be done to dress up such a place, including the expected Jungle Cruise Easter eggs and in-jokes.

The rest of this proposal is solid. The merch is addressed well; practical items like sunscreen are a particularly nice touch.​

A temple is an evocative setting for an Adventureland shop, a setting we've seen already in this round. You show cultural care by avoiding specific religions; it would be neat to create a fictional religion (e.g. like Mara from Indy) for the temple. The product list is impressively authentic, showing a varied interest in disparate cultures. Overall a strong shop idea, perfectly solid on all fronts.​

I wrote the review for @Evilgidgit 's Tiki Room shop before yours was posted, and you've answered every little critique I had for that one. The focus is purely and explicitly Tiki Birds, which makes for a clearer and more confident shop. All the specified bird/guest interactions are fantastic. In some way you could be accused of simply turning Tiki Room from a show to a shop. It works though, and it expands on the Tiki Room mythology much like Disneyland's Tiki Juice Bar does, so I'm good with it.​

Pretty bold going with a future IP! Will it pay off for you? Hint: Yes.

And I don't even know anything about Raya except for that concept art. But the ideas you provided, the ideas which are presumably derived from this film - the dragons, phoenixes, and other creatures - give your proposal a wonderful specificity which helps it stand apart from the other temple shops. Plus these critters all sound like wonderful merchandise tailor-made for the location. They could also make for some really fun interactive thematic elements.

Even just using specifically a Southeast Asian temple, that means a lot. I've explored temples like this in Malaysia & Thailand & Cambodia. Some of my favorite ever travel memories involve these amazing temples!

Like, all of these have been tropical. Somehow, only this one feels Hawaiian. That's a fun feeling, very loose and playful. The merchandise list is equally fun, and really really extensive...the Disney-fied Hawaiian shirts are something I would genuinely buy (I've done that before). The fish tank happily gives your shop an ambiance with just as much personality as the merch. Sitting around an aquarium sounds better suited for a bar like Trader Joe's than for a shop. No matter...good proposal. Sorry I run out of things to say when we're a dozen+ reviews in... ​

Outside of the United States, only Paris boasts a proper Frontierland; Tokyo has Westernland, Hong Kong has the similar (and smaller) Grizzly Gulch, and Shanghai has nothing. Big Thunder Mountain (or Hong Kong’s Big Grizzly Mountain) is the only consistent attraction. Even classics like Splash Mountain and the Rivers of America no longer get cloned. What could be added to make Frontierland vibrant again?

Your task is to propose a new headliner E-Ticket for Frontierland to complement Big Thunder.

I'm gonna pop in for the rounds to throw a little chaos into the mix!

Fun fact: Before this Episode of the game began, D Hindley and I were actually separately and independently both planning our own relaunches of this game and both planned to start within the same week! Totally a coincidence! D had a lot more of a full plan worked out and ready to go, so he took the lead and hosted with his plan. But we took this opportunity to work out a little bit of a collab based on some ideas D was planning for the second part of the game.
