Candy Corn; does it deserve the hate?

I don't know that it rates as much as circus peanuts, however...

And realistically I know that it really came from penny candy, like everything Brach's makes, which is much cheaper than brand-name candy. It is kind of like what candy-dish hard candy is to Christmas: cheap and easy to make without a trademark. So, I get its proliferation from the Depression on. In that way it has a place. But I have to admit I don't like it too much.

The thing is, why would you eat candy corn when there’s a plethora of other, much better options?

If you’re gonna eat a bunch of sugar, might as well be selective about it.

I mix it with popcorn while the popcorn is still hot; that way, the candy corn melts a bit and doesn't sink to the bottom.
I also eat a few pieces of candy corn with a handful of mixed nuts.
I'm one of those people keeping candy corn in business.
Never liked it by itself. To me, it's just fondant, but mixed with something else, usually something a bit salty, it works.

I agree with the above comments (and I finally found someone else who loves circus peanuts--that sort of marshmallow, orange-colored candy)! :joyfull:

As for candy corn, I could probably take it or leave it, butt I don't dislike it either. It's just different, and once a year is probably enough. :)

i liked them when i was a kid, but just grew out of it as i got older. i might eat a few here & there, but won’t go out of my way for them. i’ll confess i did pick them out the other night while having the waffle sundae during the halloween party the other night.

I love(d) circus peanuts but so few others do that trying to buy fresh ones is all but impossible. The only place that I have seen them recently is in the store part of Cracker Barrel. A quick squeeze test always seems to indicate that they have all become petrified circus peanuts.

BTW, I love candy corn. How can anyone not like pure sugar. However, like you, once a year is enough.

I am the same as the opening statement. I liked them as a kid...and as a teen and as a 20 something too. Now I don't buy it for myself, but I've had a couple of them at work and the traditional orange and white candy corns are still good as far as I'm concerned. (I hadn't read the entire thread when I posted my thoughts....I see that I'm in the minority....oh well:cool:)
