Dining Plan add

How soon before check in can you add the dining plan? We go in mid January and I'm on the fence about adding it, especially since a lot of the restaurants haven't signed a contract for 2020 yet. Thanks

Must be prior to 3 days before arrival. Don't worry about the contracts, they all sign.

A larger issue is availability of reservations at the better restaurants if you wait that late.

There's no requirement to have the Dining Plan in order to make dining reservations.

You are correct. They could already have all their reservations and are just figuring out the best way to pay for it. My thinking was that they might be waiting to make reservations until they decided on the plan. If they DO have their reservations already it should be fairly easy to make a good estimate on their costs by visiting https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/ and seeing if the plan would save them any money.
