So. For those of you who took an English 400 level course. Zoology is pronounced with a hard o right after the z (link to correct sounding).

Why isn't Zootopia sounded out the same way?

For zoology to be pronounced with the zoo sound instead of the zo sound, it would require three of the letter o, or zoo and ology combined for zooology.
And Zootopia is a fictional place and has two of the letter o, therefore the zoo pronunciation.
And in common usage, zoology is often pronounced both ways, with neither being considered actually wrong, but the most common formal pronunciation
uses the "zo" sound.

"Zootopia" rhymes with "utopia."
