Last 2 weeks in August

Hi all

We're booked into the POFQ for the last 2 weeks of August. I know the heat is HOT and its hurricane season but how are the parks that time of year?

Is it really busy still? Are staffing levels still high even if its started to come down from peak business of the summer holidays? Any FP+ that will be difficult to get?

Any helpful info gratefully received.

Thanks :)

School districts here are generally in session by then, and it's a good time to visit in that regard, IMO. But yes, be prepared for absolutely incredible humidity.

You will start to seat the second you walk out of your room

Definitely. It's crazy that it's so humid, you can walk outside in the first thing before sunrise, and sweat -just because.

We always used to go down for those two weeks. It was crowded, but manageable since the southern schools were back in session. We really enjoyed the last few days of our trips when the place was empty. We would enjoy multiple rides on all the major attractions - with or without the paper Fastpass.

It's hot. It's humid. It's Florida - not Alaska. Goop up with sunscreen, wear something to protect your head & your eyes & stay hydrated.

As others have said here, there's really no "down time" anymore in the parks. Treat this trip like your others. Get Fastpasses for all the major attractions and your "must-dos". And enjoy every minute!!!

You can still run into people from the Northern states that are getting their kids to Disney before school starts there. You may still see some foreign groups still in Disney as well.
Youll be sweating up a storm. When I went on an August trip, I had to have changes of t-shirts to swap out, I took a break at mid day to shower and go in the pool to cool down. That cool down got me through the rest of the day. Have good shoes & change socks as well. Watch for heat blisters on your feet. Bring good sun screen, plenty to drink and stay hydrated.

Living in NJ, last two weeks of August have long been our preferred time owing to lower crowd levels. We haven't been able to go at this time in a few years, however. When you go in late August, you get the feeling of the parks during the summer (in terms of vibrancy) but significantly less crowds, especially the later in August you go. However, I don't know if this is still the case within the past few years.

The two major downsides are off-peak operating hours and the potential for tropical storms. The heat is manageable if you know to take breaks and are more leisurely in navigating the parks, but it's not necessarily worse (IMO) than other times of the year.

Typically pretty good. The heat is brutal, but the tour groups are typically gone and schools are starting to get back in session. It varies by county, but most schools in Florida go back somewhere around 8/13 next year.

So from all this I'm gonna presume it could be a bit warm ;)

Hopefully the crowds will have started to thin out, we went for our honeymoon in 2011 for the last 2 weeks in Aug and it was a decent level. The cast often presumed we were English because at that time of year we're the only ones there (or so we were told) but I know a lot has changed since then hence why I'm asking.

We plan to plan plan plan but I'm hopeful that we will catch a break and be able to make the most of some quieter time in the second week.

Many school systems are back to school in August so the later you go in August the less crowds you'll see - at least compared to June and July.

I think the heat is what will impact you the most, so slow down your itinerary, and take a break at the resort during the middle of the heat when the heat is at its worst.

I think we can manage the heat by shop jumping (gotta love a bit of AC), long lunches, rest days and generally going at an easy pace (we're there for 14 days so should be able to tick most things off).

Crowds should be manageable and we'll just make sure we plan thoroughly enough.

Thanks all.

We went back in 2012 the second to last week of august for my daughters Birthday.

It was hot, but if you plan in a mid day break at the resort pools, and jump into an AC attraction or shop you will be fine.

The parks will have the longer summer hours, so its easier for you to take that mid day break and not feel guilty.

Please feed back after your trip!

My family have just booked for last 2 weeks Aug 2019 - the heat really worries me so these tips have been useful
It’s my first trip abroad for my sister in 13 years and my nephews who are 12 & 15 have never been on a plane!
I just want it to be perfect but guess good planning will get us through.

We’re also buying cooling towels - hopefully they will help too.
Have a fab trip

Skip the hottest part of the day. Get up early and go to the parks until about 1:00. Then return to your hotel for a nap or a swim and return for dinner time.
