Bed bugs at the Poly?

So my family and I were thinking about giving the Poly a second chance this summer for a couple of nights after having a poor experience there in March of last year. Now I’m reading on another board that there have been a number of instances of bed bugs found in the rooms and that Disney has replaced some mattresses and brought some kind of bed bug sniffing dog in. I’m pretty concerned because I do t want our trip and health to be affected by this. Has anyone heard anything about this?

Was your poor experience related at all to not enjoying the hotel/atmosphere? If so, I’d stay at GF instead.
Other than that, I agree with the above poster.. there’s a risk of bed bugs anywhere.. just do a full check upon arriving to your room, before unpacking.

Correct. My original issues had nothing to do with bed bugs. It was more to do with lack of service and amenities.

If you are searching for bed bugs at any hotel....they are not easy to spot because they hide and do not come out until night time. There are some good bed bug sprays on the market you can take with you and spray the mattress down and never put your luggage on the bed or the floor. Use the luggage rakes.

That's not a bad idea. What I like to do is check in...but once I can let myself in the room, I don't fully unpack. Instead, I put around a lot of little signs that advertise a bed bug bar (I love alliteration) is opening. An hour after that I place a thimble sized bar on the bed with 8-10 stools that are approximately 3 mm high and 2 mm wide which is comfortable sitting size for a bed bug and about a dozen little glasses of beer (25-50 microliters seems to work)....Bud Light is far and away the most popular. Go figure. Anyway, an hour after that, I'll see if any bed bugs have sidled up, so to speak. If I see any sign of a bed bug infestation at this point, I'll hire an arsonist to burn the hotel to the ground (after alerting my fellow guests, hotel workers, etc.....you have to do this in a non-suspicious way....I usually yell, "I have a strange feeling an arsonist that I did not pay for will be showing up soon".). You have to be considerate here. I usually use dark web data to confirm that the owner of the hotel has an up to date insurance policy. Anyway, hotels are usually quick to respond to complaints that the hotel burned down and will find you another room quickly. But, and this is a big but, you really don't want to go through the whole miniature bar, hassle again that day. I speak from experience. You'll be tired after this. So, I will also learn if the establishment owner has a relative nearby and gently suggest (typically hotel owners are emotional types who react badly to their livelihood going up in smoke) that if their nearby aunt has an extra room (which I've typically already confirmed) I certainly wouldn't mind staying there for the night.

You just had to mention the arsonist part, didn’t you? Well, back to creating a new profile on LinkedIn then....

Has anyone heard anything about this?
My family and I just returned from the Poly and we didn't incur any evidenses of bedbugs (thank God). Not to pick on the Poly, but I have heard people complain at other Disney resorts as well. I don't know if they're isolated issues, but so far I've had really good luck.

I'm not sure what to say, other then if you're concerned find a different resort, the Poly is not cheap and if you won't enjoy yourself or have peace of mind, I'm not sure spending all that money to stay there is worth it.

I suspect once a report of bedbugs is reported to the people at the front desk, they probably move quick to isolate and eradicate the issue.

There’s a website to check reports. I always check when I’m staying at any hotel, and I always lift up the sheets and check the bed seem as well.
It takes all of a few minutes for peace of mind.

I have a friend who did get bedbugs.. we assume from the home health people that come in daily. It was a nightmare for them. So much of their belongings were ruined during the extermination. Not to mention the high cost of it.
