Trip Report And At Last I See the (rivers of) Light: A Much Too Short Trip Report *COMPLETED*

Hello Humans!

For those just joining, my name is Nicole. (Sorry if you were expecting Buddy Boil!) :p

I am just a wee bit toooooo obsessed with Disney World and all things Disney, but is there ever really too much of a good thing? I’m just one of “those people”. The kind that doesn’t understand the need to travel anywhere else on this planet besides Disney, the kind that has more Disney clothes than work attire, the kind that stalks cast members instagram profiles… but we’ll gloss over those more intimate details. :p

I just returned from an extremely short trip to the World. And although short, I still feel the pain. It’s like when someone loses a limb, such as an arm or a leg, and they say they can still feel it. That is exactly how I feel about the removal of my Mickey ears. I have phantom limb pain from taking off my Mickey ear headbands. The ears are off, and the pain real. You mean to tell me I can't wear my rose gold ears to go grocery shopping? What kind of world do we live in?

After throwing a temper tantrum on the ground to my fiancé, complaining he doesn’t love me because he’s dragging me to Hawaii for our honeymoon, I decided the more mature, adult way to deal with post Disney depression is to share my story with you fine people. So let’s begin.

Who: Myself and my Bestie (we went in 2013 and 2014 previously)

49378180014_zpsf7106299.jpg

Where: All Star Music (We nicknamed this trip the budget trip. No park hoppers, no dining reservations, no dining plan, carryon luggage only so we wouldn’t come home with a bazillion souvenirs. A budget in Disney… that didn’t work so well. You mean that green Mickey lighting up was racking up my credit card? WHO KNEW?! :)

When: Friday, January 19th to Tuesday January 23rd

Why: Why not? The best way to escape wedding planning is Disney planning! :p

Jan 19th
Our flight wasn’t until 7 PM out of Newark, New Jersey. I currently live right outside of Philadelphia with Joe, go Eagles :p but it was easier for me to get to Newark than my friend to get to Philly. And me flying alone is never a good idea. I once found myself in an airport closest. Yeah, no idea. I decided to work a half day instead of using a vacation day, because I’m trying to bank all my days for my honeymoon and secretly another Disney trip come fall. Don’t tell anyone. It can be our little secret. Hardy har har! ;);)

Did not sleep a wink the night before, not sure if it was the excitement, the nerves about my carryon being TSA compliant, or the fact that I was fighting off laryngitis. Ursula, take my legs but give me back my voice!!!!! Some people were too ecstatic I was speechless, cough JOE cough. I could not rub in his face that I WAS GOING TO DISNEY WORLD.

Wore my little mermaid leggings to work because I am a child. I work for an orthodontic team and having all my patients ask me about going to Disney World just amped up my excitement level. My age category is definitely 8-12 because that is who I most relate too. HA!

Clocked out early and made my long trek to North Jersey. Got back in record time, must have been those pixie dust fumes in my gas tank. :p My friend’s brother was our designated Uber and I’m sure he kicked himself for offering to drive us two crazy loons.

Strapped on my magic band and admired the beauty of all that is Mickey’s outline. I love the new shape, didn’t think I would! It actually looks like a watch, IT’S MICKEY TIME.

On the ride there, we received a text message that our room was ready! Don’t judge me that I never deleted my 2016 room notification message.

My friend and I had been joking all week that we’d be put in country. NOT THE COUNTRY BOOT! And lo and behold, there we were. She called up Disney to see if they could switch us to jazz, we’d been practicing our jazz hands for months! The cast member laughed, and apologized that the resort was fully booked; we could maybe switch our room later on during the trip. TOO BAD OUR TRIP WAS SO SHORT. :(

A655C602-A5D5-4A21-BAC9-1D3766C55FE1_zpsybmczybb.jpg

Nothing screams Disney World more than a pair of country boots! Am I right?! :p

We got through security quickly and made our way to the gate. Upon arrival, our flight is delayed. From 7 PM to 8:30 PM. WHAT! Lose an hour and a half of Disney time!? I cannot deal.

The terminal was packed. There was not a seat to be found. We circled round and round, myself rolling my carryon like I’d had one too many drinks. It’s hard steering a suitcase! We were antsy and then it hit us. One little spark of inspiration. LET’S SEE IF THE EARLIER FLIGHT HAS ANY SEATS AVAILABLE.

Turns out, it did! And for a mere fee of $75.00 each, we could arrive in Disney at 8:30 PM. We went back and forth… if we got there early we could eat in the food court, we’d have more Disney time, we could get to sleep earlier and be less cranky for parking opening. Budget trip my behind.

We were soon on the plane, vowing to not tell a soul we paid $75 to arrive in Disney an hour and a half earlier. Whoops!

The flight attendants asked if we could be the heroes of the flight, and of course we obliged.

Throw the plane door out the window and save all the innocent lives on board? Ain’t no thing for Princess Nicole. Watch out Mr. Incredible. I’m coming for your costume.

Heroes need their nourishment, so cheers to the first food pictures of the trip!

Touched down in Orlando much earlier than expected… money comes and goes but Disney memories are forever. That’s what I keep telling myself at least!

The Magical Express area was dead, and we hoped we didn’t just miss the bus. Turns out the bus was waiting right outside for our arrival. What great service! I don’t know if I credit this to the fact that I’m now a hero? Hopped aboard that big beautiful red beauty of transportation and prepared myself for my ride back home. The butterflies were fluttering about in my stomach, I could not stop giggling, and I felt it deep down to my core that I was back in my happy place. You know that warm fuzzy feeling of being on property? That moment where you know your trip to come is filled with endless possibilities? Don't ever take waiting in the Magical Express line for granted!

5EB2F766-DDB3-41C8-941B-01F1245F5FE6_zpsfppgeych.jpg

Would our room be the very last room in the very back of our resort? Did they separate us from the general public on purpose because we are certifiably insane? Would my jazz hands feel betrayed about nothing getting their moment to shine?
:)

Yummmm! Can’t wait to try that cupcake! We love Sunshine Seasons!! We go to Disney often, but it took me a while to figure out that their Sweet treats are not just pretty but delicious too!!! Great photos. Enjoying your TR. We are big Epcot fans and counting down the days till our Spring Break & Flower and Garden Festival. Last year they had a super cute Figment topiary. The Land Pavillion is a favorite. I want to live in the LWTL yellow farmhouse 😉 Thanks again for your fun posts!

Glad you are enjoying!!! I have yet to get to the flower and garden festival! One day I will attend you mark my words! :) I hope they release the ears they had last year with figment and Minnie on them... I tried relentlessly to get them on the app to no avail! So jealous you get to go often! I want to come :p

We debated waiting in line for Test Track, but decided to head off to travel the world. The World Showcase that is!

There was a festival going on! As @sheriffwoody so eloquently put it, F.Arts was happening!

Before our trip, I had tried to research what exactly went on at the Festival of the Arts, but every time I checked the Disney page, it was too far in advance. I eventually gave up, and just figured we'd see when we got there! This whole trip was totally out of the norm for me! I'm soooooooo used to obsessively planning every meal, every ride, every strategy. I must admit, it was nice to just go with the flow for a change.

Our first stop was Mexico! We got these nice lovely dark photos. :p

Remember me! Don't let it make you cry. For even if I'm far away, I hold you in my heart. I sing a secret son to you each night we are apart. Remember me!

I loved all the Coco exhibits! And I am super surprised I loved the movie Coco! Going in, I did not think I would enjoy it. The story line just seemed so dark and unwelcoming as a Pixar film. But, I was wrong! I saw it with my niece and even she enjoyed the movie more than the Frozen feature... she's five and turned to me during it to ask when the real movie started. Is Frozen Fever dying?! She even asked for Miguel's guitar for Christmas. Sorry Anna and Elsa, think you're 15 minutes is up! :p

Now, as much as I loved Coco, I do not know how I feel about a total ride overlay. I love the Three Caballeros. I don't want to sound like a broken record, but I guess I just don't like change! And plus, this boat ride is almost always a walk on! :p

We exited out into the sun, and made a beeline for our next fastpass.

This picture cracks me up so much.

Frozen Ever After was even better than I remembered. Maybe I am not an old fogey, and do like change after all! :p We belted out Let it Go at the top of our lungs, in the wintery world of Arendelle! Our boat got in trouble for taking flash photos, I forgot the drop was so intense, and my friend looked as though she wet her pants. I'd say it was a successful trip through Norway!

Spotted a random Photopass photographer and insisted on a photoshoot! For the first time in forever, there'll be photos, there'll be fun! For the first time in forever... oh wait. We took over 200+ Photopass pictures in 4 days. Whoopsie-daisy!

I think this photo clearly sums up traveling to Disney in January. Expect to shiver me timbers, with Olaf! It might be cold, but you're with Disney pals so CONCEAL, DON'T FEEL! :p

It had been a good two and half hours without food, so we decided to do what we do best, EAT! Back to Mexico we go!

We decided on La Cantina de San Angel. Before our trip we vowed to eat elsewhere, there's sooo many options!... but we could not resist! This is my favorite quick serve I think in all of Disney. That's it I'm claiming it!

We split the empanadas with queso, and the nachos sans beef. Of course, I could not resist a frozen margarita. It's five'o'clock somewhere!

We sat and enjoyed our meal outside on the World Showcase lagoon. The food was amazing, but the view was better.

We browsed the Festival booklet, to see if there was anything we could not miss. I think I must have been tipsy at this point, because I stared at ducks floating by more than reading. Disney World ducks > real world ducks.

24088EAE-0D19-44CB-896F-8C02536DB948_zpsscx6vh7j.jpg

With no where particular to go, we decided to leisurely explore the world. Gave up our table to the cutest couple who were so appreciative we saved it for them while the went and picked up their food order.

First Festival of the Arts experience?

It was only after I walked away, that I realized, No Nicole, that was not a mustache. It was a self portrait of Frida Kahlo, an internationally celebrated Mexican artist.

Oh F. Arts. I am not proud. I blame the margarita.

Festival of the Arts looks pretty cool! I am a micro manager/planner too! Sometimes it can be fun to just “let it gooooo!!!” LOL. Our upcoming trip is gonna be diff too. I so wanted to snag some FOP FPs & I did (Yay!!!), so we’ve ended up with 4 AK mornings on our 6 day trip. It’ll be “a whole new world.” Okay I better stop. Thanks again for sharing your fun trip😊

We started asking every Photopass we saw if they had magic shots. The more magic the better, am I right?

479F57C4-7760-45C4-8367-703A5A2BBB1D_zpsb5l7y0ip.jpg

64EE6EB8-F447-434F-9C4D-9DE2AEBFEFFB_zpssigsmylu.jpg

It was only after I walked away, that I realized, No Nicole, that was not a mustache. It was a self portrait of Frida Kahlo, an internationally celebrated Mexican artist.

Oh F. Arts. I am not proud. I blame the margarita.
I need to start a @prfctlyximprct style food notebook and the empanadas are the first entry, they look so good! I have had cantina on my to do list for past two trips and somehow missed it both times.

There was a festival going on! As @sheriffwoody so eloquently put it, F.Arts was happening!
What can I say? I'm a kid at heart...an immature 5th grade boy apparently. :hilarious:

I saw a kid doing this and giggled. This photo gave me a good laugh! :joyfull::joyfull::joyfull:

The Frida picture made me laugh out loud - seriously! It's something I would do because I'm not big on the arts. Having to take a course in college on Women in the Arts didn't help much either :) And I can't help but notice the new Disney Dooney you're using. Hopefully nothing happened to that balloons print I'm jealous over LOL.

Glad you are throwing in the towel on micromanagaing for this trip!! :p AK. For four mornings in a row sounds like the BEST TRIP EVER!! FOP is sooooo worth it! :) thanks for following along and enjoying the fact that I LET IT GOOOOO LET IT GOOOO
That cupcake looks awesome! I would still take a red velvet from Starring Rolls over it, but not my much.

Yes, you should have bought the Figment ears.

Fly Eagles Fly!

So happy about the eagles win! I’m still I shock! I know the news shows Philly to be insane right now but it honestly feels like such a happy place where everyone is nicer and in such a good mood!!!

And I’m still upset about those ears. Am tempted to lay a lot of money for them :(

I can't begin to explain how happy I am that my Eagles are now Super Bowl Champions!!!

Actually, I can... It's like booking Pop Century and getting upgraded to a 3-bedroom Grand Villa at the Grand Floridian and given unlimited fast passes!!!

You explained it perfectly!!! Joe has never been so happy! I told him he gets a ring the same year the eagles do LOL ;)

We took my kids for the first time in 2016 and I was skeptical of what they would think of the Figment ride.....This was one of the rides that I remembered vividly from my trips as a kid. Much to my surprise my youngest DD LOVED it and I think we rode it 4 times while we were there. She still talks about it and says when we go in March that it's the first thing she wants to ride! A whole new generation to grow up LOVING Figment!

Love following your trip report. I want ALL of your outfits!
Both my kids loved it when we were there in 2016. I don't know how many times we rode it, but if we had nothing else planned (FPs. ADRS, etc) that was the go-to. And when I ask them what they are most looking forward to on our next Disney trip, that's high on the list....Figment! When I told them there was a rumor about Imagination closing they were both very upset at the idea of Figment disappearing from the park.

Once again, you've made me hungry. I get overwhelmed too when I go to La Cantina de San Angel. I always end up ordering the same thing! That habit has to stop. And omg I absolutely love "Disney World ducks > real world ducks"! Can I put that on a shirt?! Can't wait to hear the rest!

I would totally buy that t shirt! Ha! San Angel food is just too good to pass up! I need multiple days in epcot so I can eat in every single country :p

11 days in Epcot sounds reasonable right?

What can I say? I'm a kid at heart...an immature 5th grade boy apparently. :hilarious:

You are my favorite. My favorite my 5th grade boy ;) I saw someone else doing it, and didn’t feel so bad then! I loved the photo ops.. I think I took advantage of most of them. Hopefully I did the right poses for the rest.

My balloon bag was safe at home! Do not fret it’s still around! :) Saw it selling on eBay for some insane amount of money but I could never part with it! And I had to take an arts course in college, it’s the class that kept me from an overall 4.0. Let’s just say the arts are not my favorite! Glad I’m not alone :p

I'M DYING!!!!! :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious:

Glad I could give ya a good chuckle! I about died when I saw the original LOL

DO IT!!! I know the yummy Disney food ;) you must do the Cantina! It’s a must do for me I suppose I can never get away Lol

Me too
37 years of waiting for me
I am not setting anything on fire or tipping over cars though

Max

Lol most of the city is sane! They only show the worst! Haha! There’s such a feeling of brotherly love and everyone is in a good mood wearing their green! I’ve never seen such a happy city! :)

We had no fastpasses to rush to, no need to consume another morsel, and not a worry in the world, we decided to leisurely explore. I swear, you could walk through each and every country a bazillion times and still find something you hadn't noticed before.

We smelled all the perfumes in Norway, and I kicked myself for only having a carry-on. I went to try and buy the perfume on the Disney Parks app now that I am home, and it's an in store only purchase. GO FIGURE. :(

We then wandered around China, it's such a beautiful serene pavilion. The stark red paint against the greenery, it's art in itself. The intricate carvings and the overall feeling of peace, I am enamored with the China pavilion.

We went in search of the Tomb Warriors exhibit so my friend could send a picture message to her coworker. I didn't ask the back story, because I was distracted by the replica of Shanghai Disney. I must get to every single Disney Park! This is a life and death situation here! LOL... Disney World Tour 2040? Who's with me! We can take a six month sabbatical and hit them all! Paris, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, Disneyland, and end at Disney World. It's the perfect trip...

A queue was starting to form for Mulan, so we joined on in. WHEN WILL MY REFLECTION SHOW, WHO I AM INSIDE?!

A young girl in front of us was sleeping in her stroller, and her mom gently woke her up when Mulan came out. She told us Mulan is her favorite and she could not let her miss this opportunity! It made me abnormally happy. I almost cried! :inlove: First of all, Mulan the movie is awesome, the music is amazing (um hello Christina Aguilera singing at the China pavilion), and Mulan is a bad chick. Second of all, Mulan is still getting love from a new generation of children. Oh the feels! Take me back to 1998!

Our trek continued on wards to Germany, and I can't help but think of Dan Connor running for his beer tower each time I step foot in this pavilion.

I forever want to associate Schofferhofer grapefruit beer with my beloved Epcot... just that warm sunshine on your face, the sound of laughter in your ears, and the sweet taste of a cold, refreshing beer. I try to limit myself from ordering it at home to only special occasions, I never want to dilute the Epcot memories!

Snow White was about to be meeting, so into line we went!

What a wonderful WDW meetup how amazing would it be to get us all to a meet up one day!

the cupcake looks so delicious I hope they keep them after the rose gold fad (that I like) ends, I love food at Disney I eat lots of things I wouldn't eat at home.

It's a shame that Dopey isn't with her anymore :( Btw I'm watching the Eagles victory parade while I'm typing this :joyfull:
