On Property or Off Property

No he doesn't... I use my Debit card for all small purchases and even have a Bank Account that pays me cash every month for using it. The only time I use cash is when they don't take debit or credit cards or when I want to make sure the my tip goes directly to the person that earned it. However, I'm not a fool or fool enough to not know that the more directions a transaction takes the higher the possibility that something will go wrong. I don't distrust a magic band per se, just that I am amazed at the number of people that somehow think this is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Kinda the same as being convinced that paying ginormous amounts to stay onsite somehow enhances the experience. I have done both and frankly the only thing I got out of onsite imprisonment was a whole lot poorer.

It was a joke...you're never gonna get the ball into the gap if you grip the lumber this hard

Although I was aware that it was a joke, our particular climate right now would create a situation where many would be taking it seriously and saying... Yea, the old man is behind the times and unwilling to change. I just wanted those people to understand that it isn't true. I wasn't upset about it, just wanted the other side to be put out there.

I've seen varying numbers for this, some say 8 or 10 - I currently have 10 and have no issues.

I was told by Guest Services at Epcot that having 20 active MBs was most likely the reason my MB had problems opening my resort room door and getting me into a park, even though I used the same MB for just about every trip...and the day before. He recommended no more than 5 at any one time. So I deactivated most of them and haven't had a problem since.

I agree that it causes issues, no problem there, but you'll get a different number depending on who you ask. I used to have 12, and I was told by Guest Services at my resort to go down to 8 or 10 to fix the door opening issue, I went to 10 and my issue was fixed.

The fewer you have, the faster the system can look them up to find a match.

I've got my 5 favorites that I always carry with me, so those stay active. I've got bands I bought I've not even linked. A CM remarked once that I have lots of bands, like over 50. It's all those resort bands before they allowed you to decline them, lol.

I need a little info from you smart types. I'm considering staying off property for my upcoming visit. I have an AP, so I get parking for free. I would only be able to book FP's one month out, but I can live with that. My big question is do I still get a MagicBand if I stay off property? If I don't get a band, then how do I access my FP's and pay for stuff on a room charge? Thanks.
You should have gotten a magic band with your AP. You can't bill to your room at Disney if you're off-property. Even Swan & Dolphin can't bill to the room from parks.

OP, I just stayed at CSR this past week and was not affected by the construction at all. Everything was perfectly fine - in fact, I've booked to stay there again in May ;)

I just use the hard ticket and not the magic band. I find no hassle in reaching in my pocket and pulling out my card and putting it up against the sensor just as you would do with the band. Everything is on that ticket, FP's and ADR's and I have never had a mess up with it ever. You guys can keep your magic bands... I'll use my magic card. I would never charge anything remotely anyway. I use my credit card at the point of sale, take my reciept immediately and go on my way. I don't trust third hand transactions.

The last two times I have been I actually made my FP's choices the night before and got everything I wanted. I don't recommend that to anyone, but, it has been quite effective for me. I go in February usually.
Not sure about this, but I believe if you use the card instead of the magic band you will not get the video on the mine train if your doing the memory maker, not sure what other things you lose out on when not using the bands but I'm guessing the number of things will only increase in the future.

That is correct - the card doesn't have the longer range transmitter that the MB does, so they cannot detect you properly

I never used memory maker so you could very will be correct. I have a good camera so, being the mule head that I am, I will not pay that much money for someone else to take my picture. I do go solo almost all the time, so that might enter into it as well. Not to mention that I hate having my picture taken ever since I stopped looking like Brad Pitt which was, as I recall, almost simultaneous with my birth.

Except that unless things have changed, the annual pass includes a Disney Photopass which is pretty much the memory maker. Not sure if they have changed that as we haven't been passholders recently but that was the way it used to be.
