Folklore Project Help

Hey WDWmagic fam! I'm a new member, however I have been on these forums for a while now checking out rumors and parks deicussions.
The Reason I'm posting is because I'm in a class at Northern Kentucky University called "Folklore and Pop Culture". We have a big project due at the end of the semester, and I have chosen to do mine on Disney Fandom.
So, I'd appreciate your help in answering a few questions as part of my research for this project.
How has being a Disney fan affected your life? How long have you been a fan of Disney and how did you become a fan of Disney in the first place? How has being a Disney fan affected how you act, think, spend your money, spend your time, and relate to the world? Are you a part of any Disney-related fan groups or communities such as this one?

Any answers are appreciated! Thank you all!

Well...the OCD in my user name stands for obsessive, compulsive, Disney, so I'll start with that...I became a Disney fan when we went on our honeymoon at the world in 1993 (my first time on a plane, too). I guess our 2 DD's had no choice BUT to be Disney fans...we are leaving next Friday (11/3) for our next trip to our "happy place". My oldest daughter was just accepted in the Disney College Program and will be there from 1/29 to 5/17...there's a little Disney in many rooms of our house, and we have those outdoor flags which are of course Disney for EVERY holiday. So I guess you can say we ARE a Disney family!

Well, it's been my main vacation destination for many years. And I spend time daily on sites like this one, so it's been pretty much my main hobby.

How long have you been a fan of Disney and how did you become a fan of Disney in the first place?

I used to watch The Wonderful World of Color and before that the original Mickey Mouse Club in the late 50's and early 60's. My family lived in SoCal when I was in Junior High, and we lived about 15 minutes away from DL. So we got to visit a bunch!

This one, Mousepad, Miceage and W D W Today.

Cincy area ftw. I did the College Program after my sister did and became a mega fan after that. I met my fiance there, have made great friends from all over the world. As far as the brand goes, I will reference a scene from The Boys about the Sherman brothers, where the songs they have written are known all over the world but are sort of thought to not have an author/writer but be prevalent in culture (e.g. It's a Small World), making it the ultimate folk song in the truest definition. Unless you are really into Disney, you may not know the Imagineers' names, etc., you just know that the Haunted Mansion is a thing. I may be getting away from your original question, but I think it is an interesting aspect of how many people go to Disney without thinking about all the things you don't see which make it special. I could appreciate this 100x more after being a cast member and seeing how involved certain processes can be, even if it is to make them appear simple to the guests. It's what I really enjoy about it.

I don't ever remember not being a Disney fan but it affects my life by helping me think of positive things, entertains me, and through online communities added to my social life.

How long have you been a fan of Disney and how did you become a fan of Disney in the first place?
I think I have been a fan since birth :). My mom decorated my room with Disney things, the first book I really remember reading by myself was a Disney book. I became a fan because my mom was a fan and shared the love with me, or brainwashed me (whatever).

How has being a Disney fan affected how you act, think, spend your money, spend your time, and relate to the world?
I think it makes me happier and more positive of a person. And honestly I probably spend too much money on Disney things and trips to Disney. Relating to the world....because I love World Showcase so much it has inspired me to see the world and I have traveled to other countries because that helped inspire my love and curiosity for other cultures.

Are you a part of any Disney-related fan groups or communities such as this one?
Yep, and I'm even an article contributor for another Disney website.
