Spa and massage

I have a massage booked on my upcoming Double Dip cruise on the Dream and I am wondering what experiences people have had with the spa & massage? Is there a good masseuse to request? Is the use of the rainforest room include for that time or is it just in for a massage and then leave? Thanks for any info!

Hi, I cruised on the wonder in February and had a back massage. I have to say, I was a little disappointed and didn't think it was that great an experience for the money. But it was still nice to take some time out.

No, the rainforest is not included in your treatment. I am not sure if there is a relaxation area you can use - after my massage I was escorted back to the reception so I never got to find out.

I've done quite a few massages both on the ship and at the open air cabanas on castaway Cay. I always do the swedish and it's usually the couples massage. The only issue we ever had was them trying to sell us everything. You need to tell them flat out no.

Good to know about the selling stuff, I am not interested in any of that stuff. I don't like being pressured into that stuff so I'll know to be prepared to say no. I thought about the couples one but hubby wasn't interested and I picked the ship so I could see what the spa area was like.

It really is offputting. I didn't even do a spa treatment, just went to a class at the gym, and was subjected to high-pressure sales for orthotics! I mentioned it on the comment card as a negative--I would have liked to go back to the gym for a second class, but didn't because of the sales tactics.

I went back to my room after getting a massage at Castaway Cay and found a bag full of items that they wanted to charge me for. I took the bag right to the manager of the Spa... not cool

The bag was in your room? Totally not cool. I would be super mad if that had, and that would take away any relaxation I might have achieved during the massage and then be more angry.

I was surprised to find out that the rainforest room was not included in your spa treatment but I do recommend purchasing the pass.

Cabana massages on castaway Cay are my least favourite. There is no air conditioning, its a sandy environment outside (and hot with oil on!) and the beach side shower facilities aren't relaxing!

On the ship there is a steam room inside the changing rooms (at least in the male changing room). You can also use the showers which have great pressure and elemis products. I always recommend the ocean wrap on the dream class ships. the bed submerges and cocoons you. Its very relaxing and followed with a massage.

It used to be back in the day that you got the rainforest with spa treatments, now I think they just make you wait in the waiting room with tea. The rainforest is ok, I don't rate the dream class ship sauna/hammam - they never achieve a strong heat. I love the heated beds and the showers are ok... I have had to complain on previous cruises when the scents haven't worked in the showers. Depending on what you want, id recommend turning up early and using the steam room and relaxation room in the changing room/spa area.

On the Magic Class i'd add that every time I would book the couples Hammam - you get lovely products and your own steam room and shower!

We just got back and I thought I would update with my massage experience.

The massage was really good, it was well done and perhaps a little better than my regular massage at home, but my regular at home is half the cost. I tend to get headaches with different scents and I always request unscented lotions/oils used, this is never a problem at my regular place at home. When I requested this on the Dream and told her that I am sensitive to smells and often gives me headaches, the cast member said in kind of a snotty way, "This is a spa and you know there is a lot of aromatherapy used here." I was a little taken aback, of course I know that the aromatherapy is used but that doesn't mean I want it on me or lingering on my skin, but I just said, "I know but I need unscented."

Like I said the massage was good and left my back feeling better than it had in a long time. After the massage, before I was able to get back into my robe and dressed, she had a lot of suggestions for things I could buy. She even tried to encourage me to buy a pine & rosemary scented oil. Every time I turned her down, she seemed less and less friendly but not downright rude. It was just a little comfortable to be done with the massage, relaxed and getting a sales pitch. She wasn't super pushy but had like four different things that I should either buy or book (acupuncture). If I decide to do a massage again, I think it will be assertive at the start and say at the start that I will not be buying any extras and that is absolute. Then if they try the sales pitch it will impact their additional gratuity and I will need to talk to their manager.

The showers in the spa area were really nice, it was nice to shower in a full sized shower space. There was a sauna in the locker room area that I was able to use for just a bit as well (it was really hot and I had to meet back up with the husband).

So there were pros and cons to the massage/spa experience. I wasn't necessarily totally happy with my interactions with the cast member (scents and sales) but the massage I was pleased about.

I totally agree. I want to enjoy the relaxation of the massage and the sales pitch kills it. At least you didn't fine a bag full of products in your room like we did one time because they were so nice to just add them all to my bill automatically....

I'm so glad there were no products left in our room, because of your earlier post at least I was a little prepared for the sales pitch and possible product placement.
