So on the bus going over to the SW Half expo, our bus driver announced that the construction around WWoS is due to Disney making a bid for the 2024 summer games...

This was a Mears bus driver, not Disney, so I'm not confident in the veracity of his info... ;) Since he announced SW Land was opening in 2018.

Only 2 cities remain in the running for the 2024 Olympics - LA and Paris. The USOC typically sponsors one city for inclusion in IOC's voting process. It was supposed to be Boston, but the city didn't want it, so they went with LA. There are even talks about going ahead and selecting both cities - one for 2024 and the other for 2028.

So no Orlando/WDW 2024 olympics. Let's see how many more posts this thread gets for something that will not happen.

DL is close to LA, so I still vote for Goofy lighting the torch! :D

I say 5 pages worth of content.

Laughable for 2024, as others have stated the potential cities submitted bids years ago...

Then again, it's more about bribery and kickbacks so maybe by the time comes for 2028, assuming LA doesn't win for 2024 (they're the heavy favorite) or if another well equipped US city (or LA bidding again) doesn't jump in- I could see Orlando making a serious push. It would probably do what the Olympics did for Madrid- solidify Orlando as a world class city that's "made it". I know Orlando already enjoys plenty of attention, but the Olympics certainly would raise the bar significantly.

I guess if you count Jacksonville, Tampa, Orlando and Gainseville as potential venues, we'd have plenty. I'd hate to see what happens to Interstate 4 if this comes to fruition. Maybe they can just make the new toll road "Olympic Business Only" during the event.

Imagine, if you will, I-4 every day there are Olympic events in and around Orlando... :arghh:

Complete with the left hand lanes being Zil lanes...,

The reality is that LA will probably get the Games especially since they already have the infrastructure which just needs a facelift instead of new construction and construction of a new Olympic Village.

So bus drivers don't know everything? Who knew..... ;)

He also stated that the construction around the MK gate was a solar farm...and Disney was going all solar - as we drove by the solar panels.

I didn't have the heart to tell him everything he told his passengers was wrong...

It can't go to the same region within two cycles, so the earliest it could return to NA would be 2036.

^ Maybe I wasn't clear, but I was trying to say stating that they could be in play for 2028 if LA didn't win in 2024 and if LA didn't re-bid for 2028. That's where the "assuming LA doesn't win for 2024" part comes in handy. :)
