Trying to work out arrival day plans, need some help

Hi,

We're staying at Carribean Beach Resort next month, coming from the UK. Flight arrives at Orlando at 3:30pm, and I have a rental car (tried Disney transportation the last time we went 2 years ago, and ... this time we're driving).

Sooo ... I'm holding on to two ADRs, and need to either cancel one or come to terms with having to pay the cancellation charge for one depending on how things work out on the day. I've got a reservation for the hotel restaurant ("Shutters") at 5:45pm, and one for Garden Grill in Epcot at 6:05pm.

Preference is so much Epcot, but I don't think we can get in without stopping by the hotel to pick up our magic bands first.

So the question is, assuming the flight's on time at 3:30pm, do I stand a realistic hope of getting the rental car, getting to CBR and picking up the magic bands (we've done the online check-in), driving to Epcot (and finding parking!) and getting to Garden Grill by 6:05pm or might I just as well cancel that one and resign myself to having to eat at Shutters (which seems to be about the least popular restaurant in WDW) if no later times open up?

Any help appreciated!

In a perfect world assuming all goes well and flight is on time you should be able to land get your car and make it on time. Is there nothing later for Garden Grill to buy you some breathing room?

I agree with Demeter Tess. Getting your bags, clearing Customs, getting your rental car, and then driving to WDW during rush hour is going to take 2 hours. And this is on the assumption your flight is on time. Then you have to check in, and I would think after such a very long flight, freshen up a bit before going to dinner. Rushing to try to make a too early ADR is no way to start a vacation IMO.

I'd recommend cancelling both ADRs and make one for after 7:00. And Shutters isn't as bad as you seem to think. We've eaten there and enjoyed our meal very much.

I would allow at least 90 minutes to clear Immigration and customs. The new automatic booths can have long waits as all info has to be entered for every member of the group, and finger prints taken. And then you still have the photos to be taken at the desks. Took us a lot longer than the old system.

I think you'll be pushing it to be out of the airport in under 90 minutes unless you're lucky and arrive at a quiet time. I'd push out the reservation till later, and if you think the kids will need something before, then grab it at the airport. Use the escalators and you'll pass the food court on the way down.
