The next D23 - What will they talk about (in terms of the parks)?

D23 comes around again next July, as you probably know. Based on that, what do you think they will talk about in terms of what's coming to the parks? I think they will talk mainly about the Star Wars lands, both of them, especially Disneyland, since it has been going at a good clip right now (the Studios version is still relatively murky progress-wise, I think). But I also think they will announce the Marvel stuff for the parks and may give an update on Pandora/Avatar.

I am no insider, but this is what I'm guessing for WDW in terms of 2017 D23.

Toy Story and Star Wars Land should be discussed at D23 for sure.

I don't see marvel being announced at D23 for WDW if it is for DHS. If Marvel is for Epcot, than I can see it being announced at 2017 D23.

My reasoning is Marvel would overshadow Toy Storyland if Marvel is going to be in DHS.

I think Disney is going to give details on the Wreck-it Ralph attraction attraction at MK if it is not up an running and at least 2 Epcot announcements. Here are the 2 Epcot Announcements:

1.) Details on what is happening with Innoventions if it isn't already announcement by then.
2.) UOE replacement announcement- could still be GOTG or something else depending on the insider. What I mean by that is Martin and WDW1974 mentioned different locations for GOTG attraction with one being where UOE is.

What is known at this time is UOE is expected to close late 2017 or early 2018 according to insiders such as wdw1974.

Praying Martin has the better information. Both great people, but as you know sometimes sources have dated information. I have always liked UoE, because of the music and dino scene. Rest of it is so dated it hurts, so definitely I would prefer it go, like not even a question. But save the tower at all costs!!! Please oh please let The Tower be spared. That is all I can about at D23.

I would expect updates on announced projects (presumably Toy Story and Star Wars Land). I would also expect an announcement of the expanded Marvel plans for DCA and potentially Epcot and DHS announcements as well.

In terms of the show floor I think we might get the Star Wars model, not just concept art. Purely based on recent history where Disney generally shows the model for something that will open before the next D23.

In terms of the keynote: Marvel for DCA will probably be the biggest announcement. Again, in terms of recent history they announce things that will break ground before the next D23.

Potentially they will throw DHS a bone and finally officiate the parks rebranding, new entertainment offerings and whatever re-theme(s) they settle on.

Down the list is Frozen (which seems hard to nail down if it will actually break ground at DL before D23 2019) and whether they are hawking Shanghai Disneyland additions. Mickey only if they settle on it for DHS and it gets thrown into the DHS rebranding segment.


Unfortunately I'd go in with the expectations of hearing a good amount of DLR information and minimal WDW to not set yourself up for major dissapointment. From what insiders are saying though, this D23 will definitely have announcements, which is a better starting point then all the pre-D23 discussions I've been here for.

This what I am guessing what they will be talking about outside of WDW parks and Star Wars Land at Disneyland/DHS

1.)Marvel announcement for DCA outside of Guardians of the Galaxy-Mission: Breakout.

2.) Shanghai Disneyland announcement. This is a maybe because Disney wants to add more stuff to Shanghai Disneyland based on WDW1974 mentioned in the past as a way to add more guests.

3.) More details on the Tokyo Disney additions such as the Beauty and Beast area, but this could be a long shot because Disney does do a D23 in Japan.
