I was reading a few places that SSL is actually a poor habitat for gators anyway because it's too crowded with people and boats. I'm curious to know how they can prevent them from coming back. Here's a few ideas:

Just bring in Alabama and the Gators will tuck tail and run...wait different gators:confused:

Does anyone know if the brain eating amoebas eat the alligator's brains too? More amoebas = less gators...still not bringing swimming back.

Give them all magic bands and use the tracking technology designed and funded by the federal government to know where they are at all times.

Brain eating amoeba just killed a kid in North Carolina yesterday at a white water rafting center.

37 deaths in 10 years for brain eating amoeba compared to 28 deaths in 40 years for death by alligator.

I've only seen pics of fences at Poly and Grand Fla. Are they also at Contemporary, Beach Club, Fort Wilderness, Caribbean Beach, and Coronado (did I miss any resorts with beaches)? Wilderness Lodge will probably have its beach rebuilt with these new restrictions in mind. I wouldn't be surprised to see the nature trail never return, too. It's quite close to the water at points.

I have seen video of gators in the water at splay mountain while an cast member poked at it with a stick. There are gators in the water surrounding to Sawyers island. I live in Florida and it never occurred to me that there are gators inside the theme parks. Disney will never be able to keep gators out as long as there is water. They have to face reality that isn't very magical. Guests must be warned about their presence. I have stayed in various resorts on property and as stupid as I feel now I just never thought about gators. I was under disneys spell. People usually feel safe with Disney, or they used to. Their reputation is damaged, whether it's fair or not. Gators will never fear the mouse. We can only learn from this and be more vigilant about our surroundingings. It's our responsibility now. I will never again be so oblivious at disney. Kind of sad, but there for the grace... could have been my child. We are warned.

Confession time: I'm way more scared of snakes than gators. Ever since I saw a water moccasin at Fort Wilderness as a child, I've had nightmares. So I checked online. According to Wikipedia (statistically proven to be more accurate than Encyclopedia Britannica, so don't even start), it has been estimated that 7,000–8,000 people per year receive venomous bites in the United States, and about 5 of those people die. So I guess deaths aren't significantly more frequent than by gators or brain-eating amoeba, but I'm still petrified. And 7,000-8,000 people are bit by venomous snakes in the U.S. each year?! Holy Guacamole! :eek:

I'm scared of stinging and biting insects. Had to leave river country years ago because I'm allergic to horse flies. My 5 year old and I are allergic to fire ants too. You would think I would just move. Florida is a pretty hostile environment! I have passes to Disney though and I love all the theme parks. They are really the only place we can go outside and not end up at the hospital. now I'm not sure I feel safe there either. :( I'm going through anger issues with Disney now. I'm sure I'll forgive them at some point. I'm just diassapointed and shocked. The illusion has been shattered. I feel terrible for that child's sister. She must have seen it happen. She lost her brother and her childhood in one minute. All things disney will be ruined for her forever. It will always be a painful memory and disney is everywhere! How awful!
