Ok, so technically it will only be 23 months but close enough right lol. I'll be one of the many escaping New Orleans the week of Mardi Gras next year. Well, we'll really only miss 4 days of it, still get the first 1-2 weeks of the season so I guess I'll get the best of both worlds!

My fiancé booked our trip and has us down for Feb 6th-15th, it will be our longest trip at WDW yet and 8th overall (I think). We're at the FW Cabins, I stayed here Valentine's Day week in 2006 on my first trip with my older brother & family but my fiancé has never stayed at FW. We have driven around FW during December to check out the RVers and their Xmas decorations a number of times and that's always nice.

We're both excited for the Cabins since its basically a small apartment and has a full kitchen & BBQ pit that we fully intend on using often, plus the private parking space right outside is a bonus so I don't have to worry about door dings (I'm a huge car guy lol). Also, we thought of getting some Mardi Gras decorations and showing some spirit outside lol.

With that said though, we could get a room at the Wilderness Lodge for only $515 more total and that is my fiance's favorite resort (never stayed there either), so I'm thinking about switching but then it would just be a basic hotel room.

Probably not going to change but what do you all think? Cabin vs WL Standard room?

Either way it will be a great trip!

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
Being you have stayed at FW before try Wilderness Lodge!! Why stay at a moderate resort when you can afford the $500 difference for deluxe accommodations. Also like you said your Fiancé loves WL so you get to try it new and your fiancé will be excited to stay at their fave place. You probably won't spend much time at the resort anyway to really enjoy barbecuing etc like you plan on. Also the cabins are being refurbed currently through part of next year so maybe wait to do the cabins next time and enjoy a refurbed room.
Really it is all up to what you both want the most. Oh also have you considered staying in a 1 bed villa at Wilderness Lodge? It would give you the full kitchen, washer/dryer, jacuzzi tub and separate shower, etc. I am a DVC member so I'm partial to villas. Lol. You can rent points for much cheaper or you can book directly through Disney. We stayed in villas many times booked through Disney, before finally joining DVC. So that's another option. :)

The trouble im having is that although the cabins are considered a moderate resort they still have more amenities then a standard room at the WL. Also, since this will be our 8th or 9th trip I do plan on relaxing a lot more and that includes less time in the parks so I think we'd make use of the full kitchen/bbq often. I already told my fiancé im not running around the parks all day like previous trips lol. I want to sit back and enjoy my vacation, I think that can be accomplished at both resorts.

However you did bring up 2 very good points, 1 I didn't know and the other I forgot about. I didn't know the cabins were being refurbed right now, I guess theirs a chance we light get a refurbed one in Feb. The other thing you mention was renting DVC pints and getting a WL Villa. That I feel is more comparable to the Cabins then just a standard room so I will be looking into that today. Thanks for the tips!

I love the cabins but would definitely choose WL. It still has that outdoorsy feel and National Park atmosphere. Renting points is definitely the way to go if you choose a villa. Renting points is usually the most ecconomical way to do deluxe anyway. I would never pay Disney rates to rent a villa unless very deeply discounted. I have around 1000 DVC points that I rent but mine are rented until 2017. Brokers are a good way to go but renting from an individual is even cheaper. Check Mouseowners and choose an owner with a lot of perfect references if you do go private. If not check the DVC section here. I think the sponsor is David's and I hear really good things about them. Either way FW or WL you can't go wrong and you won't regret either choice. Have a great trip back! We will probably end up back in New Orleans for Mardis Gras so we will fill the space you leave when you are at WDW. LOL.

Your very welcome I'm glad to help! :). And yes I do agree being it has a full kitchen and such it is more like a deluxe. Me and DH have been numerous times to WDW as well and even though we stay about 2
Weeks it's so hard to really slow down and stay at the resort more. I think my time I spend more is sleeping! Haha Staying as long as we do I get to sleep in most days except the days we do a breakfast but even then it's no earlier than 10am. As you can see I'm not a morning person. And even though we always have a full kitchen we never cook because we love to enjoy all our fave foods at our fave restaurants instead. Mainly just use the fridge to store some water and other drinks and may have some snack/quick breakfast items. Too hard to pass up the deliciousness of WDW food that we only get to enjoy once a year or every other year. But I do totally understand wanting to stay at the resort more and cook and relax. So I understand that point you made.
I think you would really enjoy the villas. You would have your full kitchen, washer/dryer, jacuzzi tub, separate shower. Two separate vanities/sink areas. The floor plan I find is better overall than the cabins in how it's all laid out. Plus the added washer/dryer is nice if you would need to wash anything. We don't usually have to wash much but it's nice to have that option in your room.
Okay I rambled enough. Haha! Which ever option you choose I hope you both have an awesome trip!!! :)

I use to not be a morning person myself either until I started my own business. Exact opposite of what I thought was gonna happen lol. Now im up at 7am on the weekends even if I don't get to sleep til 1-2am.

We do have a list of ADRs we will be making so we will definitely get our fair share of Disney food too. Just I was thinking since the parks close early in Feb we could stay til closing in the parks and then head back and cook a dinner, that way it would give us more time for rides/attractions. But this can be done in a WL villa too.

I don't think you were rambling, just giving good solid information which is a good thing. I'm sure my fiancé would like the jacuzzi tub more then a basis one and the washer/dryer would mean we wouldn't have to pack as much either. Definitely something to think about.

Good to hear someone will keep our spots warm during Mardi gras next year lol.

Thanks for the references on DVC point renting, I'll check them out. If possible could you message me how much you would rent points for for 9 nights in early February? I would like to get a base to go off of if you don't mind.
