Ft. Wilderness Camping - Renting Equipment?

One Little Spark...
I'm thinking about doing a trip this fall and camping at Disney could be a fun and unique experience!

Has anyone stayed at the Ft. Wilderness Campgrounds and rented tents and equipment from Disney (at least I think I remember reading that they rent them there) or another local equipment rental provider?

I am not interested in renting a trailer or RV. I want to tent camp.

Any thoughts, ideas?

Found this on AllEars:

Can you rent camping gear at FW?

Yes. The official policy for Fort Wilderness is that rental tents and cots are only available to groups of 20 or more using Creekside Meadow, the primitive camping area. However, official policy and practice seem to differ. Individuals have rented equipment before and I've called FW myself and been told they do rent equipment to individuals if they have it available and a group hasn't already made arrangements to rent it. Tents are $30 per night, cots are $4 per night, so it's not cheap. Also, if you do stay in Creekside Meadow, the cost is $10 per person (20 person minimum). For group reservations, call (407) 939-7807 Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

No. Flying in.
OK, well from reading some of your trip reports it appears we are geographically close and I have a bunch of camping gear including tent, cots, coolers, inflatable cot pads, grill, camp furniture, lanterns etc. that I would consider loaning free of charge to a fellow forum member, but is way too bulky to fly with. It about fills the back of my truck. Hope you find what you need. Is the kiddo gonna dance through Ft. Wilderness with you?

I may take you up on that. I'm an Eagle Scout and still have quite a nice array of camping equipment, but it is in my parent's attic (and I couldn't tell you what is where anymore)...

Transport is an issue. I wonder if Ft. Wilderness would let us ship a box there? I could probably get everything the two of us (me and an 11 year old) would need that would be hard or heavy to transport in two or three medium sized boxes pretty easy... I don't want to "rough it", but I think a medium family tent would be nice (not just a two sleeper, but something with some space, etc...)

I dunno, I'll have to think this through. I was hoping there was a package I could rent that would basically have a cot / tent setup (like a Boy Scout summer camp thing) and I'd ship down the sleeping bags and a few other items, and pack the rest...

But, I called Disney and all they seem to rent are cots.

Tent is a four person. All the other stuff is kinda bulky, but probably shippable. Offer stands if you can work out the logistics.

FIled away. I'll PM you if it comes to that. I'm crunching a bunch of stuff right now, it's a rather last minute trip, and this may be too ambitious...but, I do know sometime this year (Fall or Spring) I'd like to do the camping with her while SHE still wants to go camping. She loved Ft. Wilderness, and has asked repeatedly if we can camp there.

I flew out to Colorado this summer for a camping trip in the Rocky Mountain National Park. Southwest lets you have 2 bags per person without additional charge. Tent & tarp went in one suitcase while the other one held my sleeping bag, pillow, and air mattress., etc. I used a carry-on for my clothes. It worked better than I thought and I was worried about getting it all on the plane.

Just don't get a huge tent and it should be good in a suitcase. Tents should be going on sale about now too!

Filed away. Southwest could be the answer...
