Le Cellier .... good food but why two credits???

The dining plans have never been a good deal for me. I do much better with an AP and the TiW card. [Your results may vary, depending on whether it's "free", the size of your party and level of resort you choose.]

Le Cellier was an amazingly rare value when it was a single-credit restaurant. At two credits, it's better paid OOP.

I always book LC at least once per trip, I get treated like visiting Royalty and the food and service have always been excellent. Again, you're results may vary.

I don't get ordering filet anyway. It's virtually tasteless unless it has a lot seasoning or a sauce. IMHO, ribeyes are just as tender and have more inherent flavor.
My son, has been visiting Le Cellier since he was 9 years old, he is now 26 LOL and last year we tried Chef de France for the first time. He ordered the filet and said it was better than Le Cellier... who knew!?!??!

For everyone that raves about the pretzel bread - it's a par-baked product that is bought from their food preveyor & just baked off. When I worked in catering years ago, we used to have these in our normal bread rotation. I can get the same finished product in my local Fresh Market. (Whole Foods also has them, but the closest Whole Paycheck to me is in Jacksonville, about an hour & a half away.). I like the bread too, but no way would I make a trip to LE Cellier for it. I'll stick with getting a better steak at Yachtsman & eating pretzel bread somewhere else.

And that's just it...the pretzel bread IS unique to most folks, who don't have access to a Fresh Market or Whole Foods. It's a novelty, and when combined with the cheddar cheese soup (also uncommon, as most restaurants with cheese soup serve broccoli/cheese) makes a delicious option not found in many restaurants.

I completely agree that the steaks at Yachtsman are superior. That is why I will have a light lunch at Le Cellier with soup & bread (paying OOP it is a very reasonable lunch) and save the filet for a nice dinner at Yachtsman.

Le Cellier .... good food but why two credits???
Cause enough guests, guide books, internet reviewers, blogs, and more rate it as 5 star....
Cause it still ranks up there as one of the hardest to get ADR spots ....
Cause mention steak and most guests immediately think.... Le Cellier....
Cause the dining room is intimate with less tables....
and Cause we continue to go there.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We don't dislike it, just was expecting a flavor tsnunami from all the hype and it was more like a little wave. Still order it every visit just because you sorta gotta get the soup while there.

I'm a sucker for good reviews too. I see everyone rave about something over and over again and then decide Its on my ADR to do list, build up an image of having an out of this world flavorful experience.......then it falls flat. Still... I like the cheese soup enough to order it on my return trips.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I will say one thing, the last couple of years, it's been easier to get an ADR at Le Cellier than it was in the past. And this internet reviewer agrees, the cheese soup is a fav. Would I give Le Cellier 5 stars? Well no I wouldn't overall. I fall into the "it's a tradition" trap when it comes to dining, and Le Cellier (like Chef Mickey's breakfast) falls into that category for my family.

I guess I'm just spoiled. I don't find really anything on Le Cellier's menu that cries out for me to make a reservation there. We generally just go down for the weekend every 6 weeks or so & there's other places I'd rather done at. If I was vactioning at wdw for a week, might be different.

I also just got back from New Orleans. We were there for 6 days enjoying the New Orleans wine & food experience festival. Ate at a bunch of fancy places & had some really great wines, so my opinion is probably a little skewed.

We have always had a great meal with great service at Le Cellier, even on our last trip a few months ago. The problem is that too many people, in order to make the dining plan work for them, were ordering the filet, and the restaurant was losing money on the deal. The filet was priced more than what Disney was giving the restaurant in return. They were complaining that they couldn't sustain this for very long, so a change had to be made. So the choices were - take the filet off the menu, screwing over people like us that don't use the plan, make it an upcharge for people on the plan - how many would complain about this, since no one seems to do research anymore, and third, make it a signature with 2 credits so they could afford to leave the filet on the menu. That was the simplest method, and I applaud them for it. Of course, I would love to see the dining plan go away, but know that it won't because Disney makes a ton of money on it.

If they are going to keep the plan, I firmly believe that they need to make the top tier items off-limits for free, and add an upcharge. If you want the filet, fine, but it will cost you an extra $10. You want lobster, sure, add a $10 for that as well. Same with other high priced options on the menu. Sorry dining plan folks, but you have destroyed a lot of Disney restaurants, and you don't even know or seem to care. Why the heck do you think Chef Mickey's buffet price is $38 now? To make it look like a good choice for the dining plan. The one and only reason. Wait until IT becomes a signature restaurant that requires 2 credits as well. That day is coming!

Thank you. I have been wondering this for years. Everyone seems to rave about that stuff. I always wondered why something that comes frozen in a case gets such rave reviews. I buy pretzel bread sticks by the case from a restaurant supplier (not quite the same, they are not as dark, which only means they were not brushed with lye). I think the unit cost on them is something like 13 cents each. 15 minutes in the oven and they are done.

I like them, but they are nothing to leave home for. Same goes for the meat they have there and the cheese soup. I really never understood the hype. I find the place to be on par with a Longhorn. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem eating at a Longhorn, but I will pay Longhorn prices, not the insane Le C prices.

its a steakhouse...with a steakhouse menu - Anywhere you can get an 18-20 ox bone in Ribeye, rack of lamb, etc in a nice setting is most likely going to be 2 credits; I know people go there for the cheese soup (which I find kind of funny, but to each their own, who am I to judge) but it is in reality a signature dining experience - plus, there really are not many true Steakhouses in Disney - there are places that serve steak, but a limited amount with a true steakhouse menu. And I would be very surprised if STK takes the dining plan when they come on board later this year in Downtown Disney - STK it is one of the toughest reservations to get on the Las Vegas strip and there are dozens of steakhouses. I do agree that burning 2 credits for a bowl of soup being the cornerstone of the meal is silly. I went to Le Cellier last summer and had a great meal that ended poorly- the food poisoning from lunch at Sci Fi Drive In began to kick in and I was a mess for 36 hrs.
