AOA hit by lightning

I didn't see it reported anywhere on here. But on a Disney Facebook group, people are reporting that AOA was struck by lightning yesterday and the nemo suites have power but no A/C. People are being relocated to other rooms on property.
People who were supposed to check in this week reported getting emails saying they were being moved to Pop Century or All Star resorts.
One travel agent said she was told that the A/C would not be back on for about a week.

Would you take a downgrade and a rebate?
Me personally? Not if I needed the extra space and amenities the suites provide. A move to AS Music suite or Wilderness Cabin would be a fair exchange. Or two connecting moderate rooms (or junior suite at Coranado).
Maybe other folks would take a downgrade and a rebate if that is an offer.

We were booked at POR in a Royal Room the year those rooms opened, and construction delays prevented the rooms from being available for our dates. We were called and asked if they could move us to Poly for the same rate. Ummm, yes :joyfull:

That is why I am skeptical that Disney would move suite guests into regular Pop rooms.

I don't believe guests booked in a Nemo SUITE being moved to Pop. That would be a downgrade. Even given 2 rooms at Pop in trade for a suite would be a downgrade. Now if those guests were booked in a Little Mermaid ROOM, then yes.
I was repeating what people were saying. Some reported being emailed they were being moved to POP and were going to call to see if they were going to get refunded the difference. But no one has posted any results of that.
Someone did say they were moved to POR but by request.
I agree they should upgrade people but I cant imagine where you would move all those people... unless you start booking them into deluxe villas?

Why should upgrades be required for an act of nature? Airlines don't upgrade everyone to first class when weather delays flights or shuts down airports.

I understand.
Now going from an AOA suite to All Star suite.. okay then I say that is fair.... But if you are paying over $350 plus tax per night for a room and get downgraded to a room that is $140 plus tax per night with less space & amenties... you should get paid back the difference or given an even exchange. Even if they give you two rooms at POP, I think you should be comped the price difference.

Yeah I don't think an upgrade is necessary... it's not Disney's fault there was a lightning strike. But guests should not be downgraded either. If cheaper rooms are all that's available, they could always be given dining upgrades or other comps to make up the difference.

I would think that Disney owes comparable or money returned. If Disney wants to upgrade, fine, but I don't think it should be expected or entitled.

Some were being offered a room at Saratoga Springs too. I was told the issue was in the Little Mermaid section.
Little Mermaid to Pop makes perfect sense ~ value room to value room. If it was Little Mermaid that got struck (rather than Nemo Suites) than a move to Saratoga would be an upgrade.
