It all depends on the personalities involved. We've gone with the same group of friends/family several times with very few problems, but the one year that we went with a certain group of know-it-alls I still have nightmares about. One instance comes to mind involving me wanting to watch Spectro while they were doing Space Mountain (I don't do SM anymore because of back issues, and as an adult fully capable of making my own decisions I feel that is not unreasonable). They were screaming at me about why I HAD to do this with them or "else".

I chose "else" and watched Spectro.

The guy who wanted to kiss Bestie was less creepy than just plain funny. Especially her reaction. She said that when she was in Italy guys would buy her a drink, flirt, and then ask her to kiss them. So it was apparently a cultural thing. He was also younger than us. Between the sheer randomness of it and the way she said no (she's got a lot of attitude; it was funny) it was just hysterical. Right after it happened we walked into the ladies room and it was a good thing no one else was in there because we were laughing so hard that we probably seemed drunk. There was also a French waiter flirting with Bestie. And then an off-duty CM who hit on me in line for Rock 'n Roller Coaster. Not Moroccan. But kind of creepy.

Last August I got a Moroccan, but he was just plain charming. Fun flirting, harmless. Also had it happen with a Mexican waiter. Except that was in Spanish. Apparently he found my Castilian accent (which I've been told is flawless) hot. He told me my accent was like music. I didn't tell my parents what he was saying until long after the fact. They were aware that we were flirting, but unaware of what we were saying, though it was harmless.

My next door neighbor's daughter is heading to WDW with a few friends as a graduation trip on Monday. We haven't mentioned the getting hit on to her parents...maybe after the fact...or never for their sanity.

lol, maybe the never is better, parents generally don't think of WDW as the place where their kids get hit on.

Beautiful!
Can't wait to see more pics. Also, would love to see some pics of the prints you purchased, as well please, if that's OK...?! :)

Absolutely! It's supposed to rain tonight but luckily the festival is a ten minute walk from my office, so i can pop in after work as well :) I didn't get there last night and I was pretty disappointed, but between the pirates game and the festivals headliner both going on at the same time, the parking situation was really ugly. We ended up coming home and then going out for a long (and free, haha) walk. But I will pick up those prints tonight, I don't care if it rains or not. I actually hope it does, it'll keep the people away!

I can show you the ones I bought last year if you'd like.

Thank you. Thank you very much.

Looks more like a picnic than a festival.

This pic does. I took it facing away from the huge row of food vendors and both lines of art booths (they're spread out over a three block distance but the field has the most I think) and I was aiming for the bridge. I like the way this part of town was designed.

History lesson. Ready?

The giant "field" is actually what used to be fort Pitt and about ten years ago, it was redesignd into the field this there today. Before then, there was a giant wall outline of the actual fort. I think for historical purposes the city decided it was easier to fill it in than to completely rebuild the crumbling structure. They filled it in, but made a lighted concrete path on the top fid of where the outline was. From the sky, this looks really cool. From the ground, you don't notice it unless you know of it. And if you do, you realize how huge this Fort was.

The longest standing fort in the country is actually located on the other side of the over path. I'll try to get some pics of it next time I'm over that way.

I can rag on my city a lot, but damn do I love it's history.

Thanks, he is a unique Pup. He is sharing my pillow right now. When it comes right down to it though, if ManChild or DH were around I'd be Stink Fish. DD should be home soon, he'll leave me in the dust. Good think I'm not sensitive.

The opposite in my house. Both cat and dog are glued to me and won't really venture off to see the roomie unless I'm completely ignoring them. The cat hates every living soul on earth except for me. No one is allowed to pick up, hug, snuggle, pet, or nose kiss her. Only me. I think it's kinda cute...until I wake up with the cat sprawled out between my calves and the dog smack up against my side while I'm on the edge of the queen size bed and they literally have the rest to themselves.

I wonder why I never get hit on at WDW?

You're not showing enough cleavage.

As someone whose next trip is likely to be a friends trip, I am fully expecting this trip to ruin the friendships I have with these people.

Which is why I won't go to wdw with my choice group of friends. We would either kill each other or get arrested together. ;)

I'm actually hoping my next trip is either with Mom again, or alone. Depending on what and when I get a new job, I guess. If I go it alone I might hold out an extra year and save up for a swank hotel for myself. I'm all about spa days and lots of them.

I'm really digging the music I've been listening to this morning, it's Trampled by Turtles. That's who is playing at the art festival this evening and I'm pretty geeked about it :)

IM FINALLY CAUGHT UP!

Looking at Bing maps...was the fort a 5 pointed fort?

I see the NE point that is in the field
The NW point appears to be drawn on the sidewalks
The SW point looks like a museum.
The southern point appears to be built like a giant planter.
The SE point is completely missing as it is covered by the interstate.

IM FINALLY CAUGHT UP!

I had that Caught up moment yesterday.

Walt loves to sleep sideways in the middle of the bed, that way he can simultaneously push both DH and me out of bed.

Instead of editing that huge post, here's fort Pitt.

Historical outline

1772ftpitt.jpg

Proposal for renovating fort Pitt into a more green space, despite the effing bridge pass and highway cutting through it. It was a delicate job but looks great now.

PSP-rendering.jpg

See the box go blue with a tan box cutting through it? This was designed so a tunnel could be cut under the highway and a small bridge/walk way goes over a pool of water. So you're crossing a bridge under the highway, but over a body of water. It's a lovely design.

Today, this is point state park. It's a national park, in the middle of a city. The "point" of a city.

The larger outline was part of the outer walls of the fort. If you look in the middle of the pic, you can see the concrete layout of the original fort. One of the stock houses is still on property and protected by every types of historic landmark association you can think of.

point+fountain+fudged.jpg

Heinz field is on the top right of this pic. The top left is mt. Washington and the fort Duquesne incline, one of two running inclines in Pittsburgh.

And on that note, I was in the middle of typing this a while ago when my power cut out. Apparently there's a five alarm fire on the other side of the hill from my house and there's a lot of smoke passing through the trees and towards the other end of my street. My animals are freaking out. I closed all the windows and vents so no smoke gets in, but I can still smell it. Thinking I might pack the dog and cat into the car and go for a drive.

Post above :) sorry, my power and subsequently wifi went out while I was making that post...it was supposed to fit snugly right under my first one :(

There are sidewalks that were laid with bricks from the crumbling fort...the parts that were beyond salvage.

There is a small museum dedicated to the history of the point, the fort, and the ones who lived here before it was a settlement. I'm really glad they included the native Americans.

Giant planter? LOL there's a lot of landscaping and place making. Everything had it's purpose and reason.

Parts are unfortunately covered by the highway that crosses through. ( poor planning on that part, but it was actually worse at some point, with highways crossing all over this area decades ago) but an outline can still be seen if you look closely. The grounds were landscaped with bushes and rocks and tress to highlight the outline :)

It just rained like heck here so you should be getting it soon.

It's drizzling here but not helping the fire efforts at all. It's only brought the smoke lower to the ground. It's blanketing the houses up the street from me ( and on a slight incline)

I'm putting the kids in the car and going out. Will write back later y'all.

Rain or shine or snow, I'm still going to the arts festival tonight. And if I have to take the cat and dog, I will!
