Slow on new attractions?

I was just at Magic Kingdom last week, and somebody I was with joked that it will be 15 years before we see a Frozen attraction and that got me to thinking why Disney takes so long with new attractions?

Maybe I am mistaken, but the park seem to clean up money wise on busy days. Am I mistaken? Do the slower days take a toll on their income?

I know they have been adding new stuff with New Fantasyland (which looked great) and the Avatar stuff going into Animal Kingdom.

I'm assuming the whole thing is money related. Spending a few million on a park expansion just seems like chump change to me when they are raking in millions seemingly daily when it's busy.

Disney only makes about 15% net on their sales at its parks and resorts. That is with Iger cutting costs and trying to raise margins. They used to be more in the 10% range.

Compare that to its consumer products and media networks that are 30%+.

Parks and resorts have enormously high fixed costs. The labor and upkeep alone are insane.

Sure, they make money on their parks and resorts, but they make a lot more on ESPN and ABC. Apple makes a lot more that 15% on their outdated phones and people keep buying them.

Bottom line: Theme Parks are a tough business. Disney doesn't make insane margins, despite what people believe by the "eye test."
