Does anyone know or has heard rumors when construction on the central hub of the MK will take place?

Being realistic, at our age this could very well be our last trip to WDW. We have reservations for this coming October, but really do not wish to see the central hub in front of the castle with construction walls around it and no water in the waterways. I would rather change our reservation to 2015 and hope we are still able to visit the parks. We are a couple of kids at heart with the Magic Kingdom being our favorite park. I guess we would like to remember the park with as few construction walls as possible and as close to as it was on our first visit in 1974.

The work has started. The swan boat landing is being demolished right now, and walls went up around the southeast part of the hub this past week. Given the scope of this project, and how many phases it will likely be done in, it's hard to say if it will still be ongoing in October.

If I wanted to be sure it was done, personally, I'd go in 2015.

From micechat on a post from Mar. 1st:

I see. Well, even though it was said by Micechat, there's still likely a lot of truth to it. The phasing is what will drag it out, because it's not a difficult project. They're definitely not wasting any time. Walls were appearing just about every day last week, and the swan boat gazebo demolition advanced each night.

Does anyone have a picture of it? It would be interesting to see for me. There is an outside chance that we will have enough money and be secure enough to take a trip to the parks in the fall. Maybe September/October. First off I would like to get the money and if I do we will encounter a good "problem" in deciding whether to do Disneyland or WDW. I'm not saying something like this is the tipping point either way, but I would like to see what it looks like right now.

Right now, the moats are drained, and there are just construction walls along the railings at the outside of the southeast quadrant of the hub. But there's no way to know what it will look like this fall. We won't know until we get to that point.

Don't let this work be the deciding factor at all. Either you want to go to WDW, or you want to go to DLR.

Yep, the permit for the hub hardscape refresh project expires 11/17/2015. There is also one for the Hub AV Package which expires 8/25/2015.

I wonder if the AV Package is specifically for the new speaker layout, or if it's unrelated to the hardscape project (perhaps updates to the castle projection system).

I am so disappointed that there will be construction at mk during our visit this summer. We have paid a small fortune to visit from the uk. & feel that we should have been made aware that this work was taking place during our visit. My daughter & I have been many times before so we know how magical it is. Unfortunately this is my daughters friends first visit & I feel so bad that she will miss out on that magical feeling.
If I had known about the work & I would have waited an extra year & visited in 2015.

There were walls, scrims, empty moats, boom lifts and a gigantic crane during our visit last week.....and the Magic Kingdom was as magical as ever. You just have to set your mind on enjoying what is in tact, and not what is under construction.

Disney will never send out notices to warn guests that there is construction in the parks, nor should they. They post ride refurbs, but if they told guests about every maintenance upgrade or concrete replacement, they would constantly be sending out letters.

Yeah but the view of the castle from the other end of Main Street USA is the iconic Disney image if you are travelling 3000 miles to see it, it would been nice to know that the view would be alter at the time of booking. I understand that they can't share all maintenance but this is not just any area. It is used heavily in their advertising programme to attract visitors

From the train station, not even the crane affected our view of the castle. If we focused on it, sure, but we didn't. That's what I'm trying to emphasize. If you want to be disappointed, and want to see all the blemishes, you will. But if you want to go and appreciate the sights and enjoy everything, you can easily do that too. It's just your mindset.

There will never be a time when something isn't under construction there. Even if it's a section of MSUSA concrete that they needed to replace overnight, with ropes or walls up around it the next morning.

We last visited in November 2012, and MS facades were still heavily under construction. We hadn't had an unobstructed view down Main Street in as long as we could remember. So, we were excited that all the facade work was going to be done for our trip last week. Wrong! We got there and found a big scrim wall to be up around the Confectionary (I think). Plus a crane, plus a drained moat, plus walls in the hub. But we enjoyed our multiple visits to the MK regardless, and have fond memories of the castle.

I am still going to have a fantastic time & intend to enjoy every minute . I love every minute I spend in Disney & have so many fantastic memories, I even got married in Disney. All I am saying is if I had known about the construction in the hub at the time of booking I would have chose another time to plan my visit . Still counting the days down till our return. 109 left.
