To hop or not to hop :(

ugh, to hop or not to hop? that is the question now....i just downgraded a day, so now i have 5 base tickets as opposed to 6, I know its only a matter of 11.00 per ticket per person for that 1 day but any little money savings is better than nothing, but we always got hopper passes on past trips, but times are rough, money is sooooo tight esp. with my husband being out of work for now do to medical...and part of me thinks, how often did we hop on our last trips? for the life of me I can't remember.
opinions welcomed ;)

Well if you are going for 5 days I would say don't hop A. It is alot of money to add on the hopper pass VS adding on another day I believe its an extra 60/ per ticket For 120.00 for 2 people I would say NO I have never hopped and I never will if you were only going for 3 days I would say Yes but going for 5 you can go to every park once and then a bigger park like MK the 5th day so you can do every thing especially if you want to save money I would say NOT TO HOP :)

This is just us, but if we are there for 5 days we park hop every day, guaranteed. I can certainly understand the money side of things, though. In our case, 11.00 per ticket is $55.00 for the family, which is at least 2 days worth of breakfast, so I would not hop for a day.

Our first trip....we had to purchase Hoppers for all of the days on our trip, to use it ONE night to see Wishes. It wasn't a planned thing...MIL decided to stay at the hotel, husband and I wanted to get out. SUCKED to have to buy Hoppers for the WHOLE trip to use for ONE night.

Second trip, we bought the Hopper tickets....used them once. Total waste of money for us. LOL

We wont buy them again. I think it's perfectly do-able to spend the entire day in the park you've chosen for that day and then go to another park one of the other 5 days. If it's DHS....then plan to spend some time at your resorts pool ;)

With all those days you'll be fine not hopping and will have a fantastic time I'm sure, it's not like you're going for just 2 or 3 days and trying to visit every park. To be honest we've not 'hopped' much at all for a good number of years even though our AP's allow it and still have a great time.

We are park hoppers but now with the new FP and the rules about getting them for only one park a day might change us into non-hoppers. I think it would probably be just fine to do one park a day.

I wonder if Disney will ultimately end up losing money with people not paying extra for park hopping due to these restrictions? Can see things changing if they do!

We park hop so we can go to EPCOT in the evenings if a festival is going on. We normally plan a full day at the AK and DHS, then later in the trip a half day at each park just to ride the coasters and TOT.

We are going in June, and bought the park hopper feature mostly out of habit. I'm wishing now that we hadn't, or that we got the water park feature instead. Oh well, I guess I will just have to live with park hopping this time. ;)

We always hop. Our last trip was 8 days/7 nights, we did 6 day tickets. We would be at a park in the morning for rope drop and then somewhere between 11 to 1 we would go back to the resort, eat lunch and let our DD nap. After nap time some days we would go to the pool and other days we would head right our to another park. Not one day did we go back to the same park that we started in. We are planning on the same thing for our next trip, this time next year.

But in the case of the OP, if money is tight and you need to save where you can then skip the hopper passes and just do 1 park each day.

We always hop. We do the early hours and stay until the park starts getting crowded, then we hop to another non emh park the rest of the day. This way we get everything done as much as we want. We also like to be able to hop if it's raining. Some parks are better in the rain than others. It's only 59.00 per person for the entire trip. We have ap's, but the years we don't buy them, we always add the park hopping option. For 81.00 per person, you can add both hopping and the water parks.
We just love the freedom of hopping.

I actually see our family using our parkhoppers just as much as before because we'll do rope drop at one park and hit some headliners while lines are (hopefully) shorter and then have FP+ scheduled at a different park for later in the evening. I especially see us scheduling FP+ at MK on at least 2 different evenings in order to get more rides in.

OP, we always get parkhoppers because we like the flexibility they offer. We're pretty relaxed about touring and like to go with the flow. We often find ourselves ready to leave a park in the afternoon to get away from the crowds and heat and head back to the resort for a swim and/or nap. Then we'll either eat at the resort or head to a park for dinner and more rides or a fireworks show. We like not having to go back to the same park we started the day in. We usually go to Disney for 6 or 7 days and typically spend a day focusing on each park. The last 2 days of our trip are usually spent heading to 2 or 3 parks a day to hit a ride or two that we either missed on the first visit or that we want to hit again before leaving. For us, it's worth the extra money for that flexibility and freedom.

That being said, if I had to trim my Disney vacation budget, as long as we were going for 6 or more days I could survive without parkhoppers for one trip. I would just go in to it with the understanding that whatever park we start the day in is the only park we can even think about going to that day. I would definitely be very diligent about making sure we were going to the least crowded/recommended park each day to try and optimize our time in the parks and accomplish all of our "must do's" each day.

Hve park hopped in th past but just don't like it. I don't like having to wait for a bus taking up my park time. It's also a pain to hop with young kids. We always get 5 day tickets, 2 days at MK and 1 day at the other parks...always works just fine for us and we get to do everything!

We personally do not hop. I see no reason to waste any of my day transitioning from one park to another. There is plenty to keep me busy for a full day at every park, because I enjoy a wide variety of things. My whole family is that way. So, we save all that money. I know some people like to hop from a park that closes early to a park that closes late but I use the day when I go to an early closing park to do the things that don't require a park ticket. :)

We no longer park hop. It is, for us a waste of time and money. Our touring style is slow and easy, enjoying much more than rides, and we so much enjoy the slower pace than the hectic, try to do as much as possible touring we used to do. No more hopping for us. Your mileage may vary.
Thank you, the other down side imho is that my kids are young going from park to park seems to make them tired and cranky :(
