Wilderness Lodge rejoins AAA list of 4-diamond hotels

Perhaps better question....

Why did WL fall OFF of the 4-diamond list, while many other deluxe hotels did not?

Good question. Especially considering how well it is usually rated around these parts. And actually, everywhere. A quick search just delivered the info that TripAdvisor has the Wilderness Lodge ranked #1 and Wilderness Lodge Villas #2 on the WDW hotels list.

Odd.

Probably fell off the list due to that short period of time where the Whispering Canyon management ripped them of their theme and had all the wait staff tone things down and take away all the fun of the place. Thankfully, that didn't last too long.

Love this resort. Isn't the lobby practically the same idea as the Grand Californian at Disneyland, though?
As others have said, WL came first, but also has a much stronger Native American influence, where GC is more of a craftsman style with little to no Native American influence. WL is much more directly influenced by American National Park Lodges such as Old Faithful Inn.

I was there last week and the experience was more vanilla than the unlimited milkshakes. The only thing that was out of the ordinary from a normal restaurant was the ketchup bit.

Wilderness Lodge, the VWL, Grand Californian, Animal Kingdom Lodge (Jambo and Kidani) all have similar feeling to them for a good reason. They were all designed by the same architect: Peter Dominick - he has certainly left his mark on Disney
