DAK AVATAR breaks ground

I find it funny that they had to build a little pile of dirt to have a "breaking ground" ceremony.

Well you wouldn't want these big executives breaking a sweat now would you? ;)

I have mentioned this in other threads but I am still surprised that we haven't seen permits filed with the South Florida Water Management District yet. For a project like this they would normally proceed construction by at least a month. Now this was just a ceremonial ground breaking but real construction can't be to far off.

One would hope, but never underestimate....

The site has been sealed off as a no-go site now for cast, and construction is getting underway.

Also, can anyone explain the obnoxiously large shovels?

Won't there have to be some additional permits issued before they can do much beyond basic site preparation? There were a couple permits for that, right?

Of course, what's the hurry. They've got three years to build the thing...

Well at least they seem to be starting right away and they didn't close down FOTLK for nothing at all. There were a number of people on this forum that stated they'd believe it when machinery and equipment start building it, with regards to Pandora et al, well those should be in place now.

There were a couple permits for early site work and there will be more of those. The one I am looking for is the one they need to submit to the SFWMD whenever they do a project that will in some way impact storm water control or impact waterways or wetlands. These permits will have pretty detailed plans of the area. For example they filed one for the new FotLK theater about a month before work began.

Well, you know what, here we go.

I love this site and the forums the most when there are actual things happening to talk about.
Spy photos, aerial shots, permits---progress! So, it's Avatar. Blah, blah, blah. I'm just
excited to see some construction, and some new things all around the park. Finally. Finally,
we'll have something to follow, watch, speculate on, that's really happening. In addition
to Instant-Harry-Potter-Land, that is. It will be fun to see more cranes on Disney property
once again.

Hint, Disney: Don't stop here. You have miles to go. You get an attaboy today. Keep it up. :)
