I'm sure I read somewhere about a Savannah Walk at AKL which we're planning on doing after our meal at Boma, but I was wondering if there are any other fun or interesting things to do at any of the other resorts that we could do on the couple of days off we've got planned ?

At Port Orleans Riverside (our home resort) you can go to the River Roost Lounge on Wed-Sat nights and catch Yehaa Bob. I've not had the opportunity to actually sit down and enjoy the show, but I've walked by it and stopped on a couple of occasions and it's a blast! (Unfortunately, I had to keep walking because my family was counting on me to bring back sodas and wouldn't have appreciated me being gone too long just to see Bob perform.)

Also at POR in the courtyard of Oak Manor you can watch movies each night under the stars. If I'm not mistaken, they're showing "Wall-E" tonight at 8pm..."Little Mermaid" tomorrow night.

There's all sorts of other activities at POR. You can find a flyer of this week's activities at http://www.portorleans.org/images/recreation/POR-Rec-2013-10.pdf.

Explore the Boardwalk area - they have street performers at night, you can walk the Boardwalk, get ice cream at Beaches & Cream, see the fireworks from Illuminations without entering EPCOT, play silly carnival games, rent a surrey bike, etc. It's a beautiful, relaxing environment and definitely worth checking out.

If you are into pin collecting visit the different resorts and get a "resort specific" pin for your collection. During the period leading into the Christmas holiday season you can go resort hopping and see how the decorations are done to blend with the theme of the resort.

A few years back we discovered the surrey bike rides that so many of the resorts offer. Our first was at Wilderness Lodge and it was incredible... the path you take is just beautiful. It's secluded and through the woods and you forget for a minute you're in the gigantic tourist destination you are in. The second time we did it was at POR and it was equally as beautiful but in a different way. You go around the large lake in the middle of the two sections of the property so the beauty there is of the water and the buildings of the resort themselves. We definitely plan to do another this trip while we're at CBR as well. It's a lovely way to spend some quiet time with your family in the midst of what is always a hectic vacation. :)

Not sure where you are staying, but at check in, the resort should provide you with a activity sheet for the week. When you are at AKL for dinner, when you walk in to the left near bell services, there is a board that lists all the activities for the day and the times they occur.

At my beloved PORS....I love to catch the boat to downtown..I love to toss a dime in the Sassagoula river and make a wish...I love to eat a MCB each day of my visit..I love to take a stroll in the morning to POFQ for a breakfast of Beignets..Oh and I love to make sure I miss Yee Haw Bob as it makes me think I'am actually staying at a Butlins holiday camp..

At Contemporary, the fireworks can be seen from a nice deck location- I always forget what floor. (unless you have dvc- then there is a nice lounge/patio area that's even nicer!) The beach is a nice area to watch the Water Parade.
POP, Contemporary, and Poly all have nice shopping options.
POP- I like looking at all the memorabilia in the lobby.
Poly- Tambu lounge and a Lapu-Lapu. just hanging by the lobby waterfall (while you still can!), and the Beach, and the walkways, and the fireworks.
Boardwalk.. balcony seat is my happy place! Walking around the hotel and finding the old penny arcade pieces(although bittersweet, because I miss my main street penny arcade!), hanging on the boardwalk, performers.

As a long time Disney resort guest depends on what you like. here is a list of some things to do at various resorts:

1) Rent a boat at PORS and drive to downtown Disney or go to the Wilderness logde or Contemporary and rent out a Mouse boat (lots of Fun)
2) Wilderness lodge rent out bikes and drive and tour through the trails at Fort Wilderness.
3) Fishing trips on the seven sea's lagoon can be made and be done at the Wilderness Lodge and Contemporary. You can also book the trip and be picked up at PORS and fish the back waters. Fished this numerous times and love it better than the 7 seas.
4) Cane Pole Fishing over PORS
5) Go to the Board walk and stroll it a little bit and play some games and get something to eat.
6) Go to the Poly and sit on the beach and watch the fireworks at night when they are scheduled at MK. Also stay after the fireworks and catch the seven seas lagoon light parade.
7) Horseback riding at Fort Wilderness. Not sure if this is still happening. We went a few years ago and had a blast.
8) Not resort oriented but don't forget typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard beach. These water parks are a great ways to have fun and relax.
9) DTD is always fun for shopping and food. Dont forget Ghiardella's for Ice Cream or Beaches and cream near the bordwalk for ice cream.
10) Yeehaw Bob at PORS is great and fun and extremely entertaining.
11) Hoop Dee-Doo Review is just a down home good feeling old fashioned fun and dinner show that is fun for the entire family.
12) Don't Forget about the Movie Theater and Bowling in Down Town Disney as well.
13) If you into tennis and Golf then you can look through the guide and see where this can be done and will give you tee times along with pricing and reservations.
14) Lastly, one of our favorite things to do at times in our resort is go to the main pool, get drinks, swim a little, get lunch, go back into the pool and then into the hot tub before dinner. What a relaxing and fun day then off to dinner and take in one of fireworks shows for the night.

That is 14 things to do and think of. I am quite sure other people have a ton more things to add. But for one or two days that all you want to do other than go to the park is a lot already to choose from. I have done alot of these things off this list and the wife and I had a really fun day just staying at our resort or booking a few activities like fishing (We both love to Fish) and for us renting a deck boat from PORS and driving it to DTD for lunch and a Vanilla Milk shake from Ghiardella's that we have done a ton of times. We use to always park at captain jacks and then hop back on the boat and head back to PORS. This was not an issue prior and cannot answer if it is since the DTD is going under construction and if the docks are available any more at Captian jacks. This is what Annie and I use to call are boat hopping day. We just loved doing that and felt extremely special in doing so.

I have been looking for this thread as I will have a beginning day and an end day at the resort with just me and the grandkids. Since I can never last long hours at the parks I thought we might do something resort oriented and this has given me some ideas.
We are staying at WL the first part of our trip so I think we will rent the bikes in the afternoon of our first day and afterwords catch the Chip and Dale movie.
For thanksgiving I believe we will hit DTD and see a movie and maybe even bowl..kids love bowling.
On our last day we will be at the Dolphin and I think in the morning I will put them on that pirate cruise that they have on Mondays and then in the evening we will go to AKL and do some of those evening activities watching animals and listening to stories around their campfire.
Thanks!

Sounds like a good plan and lots of fun for the grand kids and you as well. Enjoy. Resort time has become our favorite part of the trip.

AKL has a marshmallow roast at dusk between the pools and savannah area where they also have night vision goggles that anyone can use. Cool! They also have a daily presentation of African culture in one of the overlook rooms off of the main lobby .. The only downside is that it's beside one of the DVC kiosks so you will likely be accosted by a Disney time share specialist .. Can't have everything! Lol
