Ground Transportation Options

O.K., with the "Airport Thread" underway (and extremely insightful), my next order of business is Ground Transportation: just how can I get from ANY airports to our resort (Grand Californian Villas)?

I saw that Grey Lines operates a "Disney Express Shuttle:" for any who have participated in this shuttle, how was your experience?

What about any recommendations for a personal car service? As an avid WDW traveler, I am well aware of a couple reputable limo services; but, as a novice DLR planner, I know of nada.

There will be 9 people in our travel party, so I don't want to spend an enormous amount, but I wouldn't mind knowing ALL my options for transportation. And, I realize that if we went with a car service, we might have to split up our party...no worries there!

Thank you all again in advance!!

When I flew into SNA I just took a taxi, it took less than 10 minutes at the taxi stand, and no preplanning. I think it was less than $30-40 one way. And the taxi companies have mini vans for larger parties, although with 9 people you'd need at least 2 vans.

I also used Karmel shuttle when I flew in and out of LAX, it was a decent price. I can't remember the price right now, but it was just a little more than my taxi had been. We had another family with us in the van but with such a large party you'd probably be the only ones.

@journ116, Sara, please remind me when y'all are thinking of going. I just picked up the AAA S.Cal. planning book. Squeeaaaallll!
We are officially booked at GCV for Feb. 8-15, 2014!!! I tried to incorporate at least 1 day where my DD7 and her cousin would not have school, which is why I am planning our trip so close to President's Day weekend:confused: . And, it just so happens, they'll have off the Monday after our vacation, which will give them both an extra day to "recover" from the time difference. If I wasn't sooooo worried about the little ones missing some school, I would've booked our trip for Jan. 25-Feb. 1st, because according to TouringPlans.com, it's one of the slowest times of year...however, we run the risk of going during a time of year when major refurbishments/holiday-layover removals are going on.

When do y'all think you'll be traveling to DLR?

Fantastic!!! Oh, I can't wait to see all but especially your GCV pics. Yep, there's always some give and take in scheduling. Oh, yes! You've gotta try for a "recovery" day.

We have targeted Spring Break 2015, March 6th-13th for [heh hem, in my best Sam Eagle voice] a tribute to Southern California but mostly Disneyland. Like Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for DLR and the rest for other sights to be seen.

You sound like you've got alot of good planning going.

Looks like you'll be there during the year of Disneyland's 60th anniversary and some possible new offerings for the occasion.

I sometimes take a cab from John Wayne Airport home to Villa Park, and it runs about 40 bucks one way. It would be roughly the same distance from John Wayne to the Disneyland Hotel. Split the party up into six in a minivan and three in a regular cab, and it's probably cheaper than doing a Super Shuttle reservation or a Gray Line Disneyland Express bus.

Long Beach Airport is an extra five miles (maybe eight?) of travel between the airport and Disneyland, so factor a higher cab fare.

LAX is much further away, and a cab fare to Anaheim from LAX would cost in the $100 range, so you'd need to consider the shuttle bus options more heavily for LAX.

The best thing about a cab from John Wayne is how fast and easy it is. Roll your luggage out of Baggage Claim and across to the taxi stand, organize your party into two groups, get in, and go. You zip immediately onto the San Diego Freeway, and 20 minutes later you are tipping the driver and unloading at the front door of your Disneyland area hotel. No fuss, no muss.

Oh, I should've stated that there will be 3 children in addition to 6 adults...I will have a car seat for our 4 y.o., but the two older kids will need booster seats if we do a personal car service. I checked into the above posters Super Shuttle, and they do NOT provide car or booster seats. What about the taxis rides? Will they have those on-hand?
