Cancelling ADRs

I know there are a few restaurants where if you cancel late, you get billed. But with the rest of the restaurants, there's no penalty for late cancellation or just not cancelling, is there? That's how I understand it, just checking. I always cancel a reservation if it turns out I can't use it, so I would do the same at WDW. Just want to make sure though that I don't pay any penalties.

It really depends on the restaurant. Per the WDW website:
You can cancel your dining reservation online or by calling (407) WDW-CNCL or (407) 939-2625. Guests under 18 years of age must have parent or guardian permission to call.
Some restaurants may charge a fee for cancellations or no shows. Each restaurant at Walt Disney World Resort maintains its own cancellation policy, so be sure to check the policy when you are making your reservation.

Well there's always the flip side that it's the polite thing to do so other's can use your ADR if you aren't going to.

As I said in my OP, I always do cancel (in the real world). At WDW though, it just seems like it's really hard to know if you're even going to be able to make it somewhere in time for an ADR, which is why I wanted to know the penatly (if any) for a no-show, or a possible late cancellation.

If it is a reservation that requires a cc# to reserve they will charge a $10 per person no show. Cinderellas royal table will charge full amount if no show.

I have been there and totally understand! It's always possible to just call at the last minute and tell them so if there is a walkin they won't save your table for you. If you are late and call they will usually hold your spot as they've done that for us before at several places, I think most places realize you are on vacation and doing the best you can to be timely and they are doing the best they can to serve you! Enjoy your trip!!!

The more popular places, they know that theres a certain number of guests who would love to get that open spot if it was available. If you are a no show they miss out on revenue thats pretty much guaranteed them. So even with the $10 charge they at least get something. And possibly fill the dining time up any way with walk up, hungry hopefuls.
