Would you buy a premier pass if you were me?

We just purchased APs last month and are returning to WDW in May and possibly Oct. We're also going to Disneyland for 5 or 6 days in July. A 5 day Disneyland park hopper is $290 and a non park hopper is $260. I can't find how much a Premier pass is with tax. I'm thinking around $900, but as I understand it, they'll apply the ~$600 we spent on APs towards it's purchase so it should only cost us $300 per ticket. Any downsides to doing this? The only thing I can think of that I'll be giving up is the new RFID annual pass.

If it was going to save me money, I'd buy it. If not, I wouldn't. I didn't know they'd let you upgrade from and AP to a PAP. That's nice of them, if it will save you money...and so unlike them! Good for Disney!

I would upgrade and get the Premier. You'll be considered a DL annual passholder and you'll receive lots of discounts for the food spots and for merchandise. Twenty percent off merchandise and fifteen off food. Also, Disneyland has been hosting weekly annual passholder events and opportunities for Limited Time Magic, completely separate from the regular Limited Time Magic opportunities open to the public. You'll be able to participate in those activities.

Thanks! I didn't even think about merchandise and food discounts!

I'm pretty sure you can upgrade from any type of ticket to another type of ticket by paying the difference. I'm sure the PAP will expire on the same date as my AP would, but that's no big deal to me.

We are doing the same as you. Doing WDW in July then heading to DL in August. Our APs in WDW expire in July. We are renewing then upgrading to premier passes before we head to DL. Gives us a reason to plan more trips to both coasts!

Typically you can only upgrade within 14 days of first use. I do believe however that you can upgrade APs during their life. And yes, the premier would expire on the same day as your AP.

And if your upgrade would only cost $10 more than the 5 day hopper, you should more than save that on food by using the AP discount.
