YEE HAAA. I won't be sleeping for the next 163 days....Just returned from the travel agent and booked our September trip. Our plans for a Dec. trip last year fell through, then our plans for a Dec. trip this year wouldnt work out. So now its finalized.... Date of arrival Sept 11th. going to the 22nd. Going on the trip are just my wife and myself, leaving our dear son home who can't get time off of work. The trip is going to combine celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary which will be in July and my wife's birthday, which happens to be on Sept 12th. We will be staying at Port Orleans French Quarter. My last trip to WDW was in 2011, with my son, but my wife hasn't been back to Disney since 2007, so theres a lot of Disney for her to catch up on. We are planning to drive from Maine, a first time experience for us, ( we have had several horrific accidents where baggage handlers damaged her wheelchair when loading or unloading from the planes) so it will be a long 1438 miles to travel with me being the sole driver.
So now I'm into massive planning mode. Trip money is no problem, I had accumulated savings for last years trip and continued the savings ever since the last year trip fell through. Got confirmation of a friend to watch the business and even have back up contingencies in case that gets altered.
So I'm bouncing up and down with joy. And life is good in my home in Maine.

Thankyou.... Not ADR's yet... I know where I'd like to make ADR but I'm letting my wife check out the various restaurants and menu's to see what she would like. Then we can come to a decision. I definitely want arrange a meal at Be Our Guest. We will be stopping in NJ on the way down so my wife can visit with a friend, maybe have a quick dinner with her and her family, which will allow a nice break after about 7-8 hours of driving. Then continue on until I find I need to stop.

That sounds great! I am from Maine also and I would not dream of driving. I don't even like driving in Portland so can't imagine going all that way! We are at the end of interstate 95 way up North! We will be there the 14th until the 21st of September also.

We would be flying, BUT both times Delta baggage handlers, while transporting my wifes power wheelchair, on two different trips, allowed it to roll off the back of their trucks, causing massive damage. Each time affecting her enjoyment of our trips, the chair couldnt be repaired in Orlando. So she had to use the chair as it was. Delta did offer us free airline tickets and did pay for all repairs AFTER we returned home, but we couldnt enjoy the Disney trip. Thats one of the reasons she hasnt been back since 2007.
Where are you staying? Maybe we can connect along the way?

Take your time and enjoy the ride! Road trips can be fun if properly planned!

Isn't this what it's all about? Happy for you!

Thankyou...My wife has had a lot of medical issues since just after we were married, so life's long road has been difficult on us and our son. Business for us, like everyone else, has been  ehhh for the last several years too, which hasnt helped. We've tried to get as much out of life as we can. Disney's been a major Highlight.

We are going in Sept. as well, staying at BLT. Love the low crowd levels in Sept...Be careful on that drive. I can't imagine 1438 miles driving. Our drive is about 9 hours and I complain about that.
Congratulations on the 30th anniversary...our 30th was last Sept.
May I make a suggestion for a special anniversary outing? On our actual day of our 30th anniversary, it just happened to fall on a Sunday and we went to the House of Blues Gospel Brunch...one of the best times we have ever had at WDW...after some time resort hopping and pool lounging, to end the day we went to Cali Grill and watched Wishes from the rooftop. An amazing day. Even though your actual anniversary date is in July, you can still celebrate in Sept.!:)

It was a horrible let down when the 2012 trip fell through, and then when the Dec 2013 trip wouldnt work out....then I just thought OMG theres a possibility....lets try for SEPT... and it worked out. Our son is having to stay home so as we are all smiles and on cloud 9, he will be a depressed, moody son. :p

Yes.. We went to the House of Blues Gospel Brunch before on another trip and had a blast. I will be setting something special up. One of the things that got me thinking of Sept was the low crowds... But I didnt know about the timing of the tropical storms I've read about that are around in Sept. My wife will also be travelling with her new service dog that she just graduated with last month.

We have been going in either May, Sept. or Dec. for years. Once we got into a bad tropical storm while staying at a resort off site. They came along an pushed all the pool chairs into the pool, which I thought was really clever.
It can be plenty hot and humid in Sept. with those nasty afternoon thunderstorms, but it is Florida and the lower crowds, for us, makes up for the weather.
Hope you have a wonderful trip and anniversary.

Thanks... My wife will be prepared with poncho at the ready close by. On past trips she has kept her eyes on the sky and heads for the nearest shop, awning, doorway before it hits. Being in the wheelchair, she hates to get wet.

Can't blame her for that. We have a Maltese (not trying to compare him to a service dog) that my wife recently got a rain coat for and he takes to it well. We have a friend who did the Give Kids the World, Make a Wish with their daughter in a wheelchair and they got a specially designed for a wheelchair poncho and did not let the rain slow them down a bit. That was many years ago and she is in full remission now, but I remember the photos of her and her wheelchair poncho...something that until then I did not even know existed.

Have you considered renting a scooter when you got there? My Dad rented one on 2 different trips from Apple Scooter rentals and they were great to deal with.
My wife is in a power wheelchair thats "fitted " for her body and has features she needs like tilt and recline and raises up. When the chair was damaged before, we were offered use of another chair or scooter but that wasnt an option for her case. It's a $40,000+ chair.
