Hi There,
Fairly new member here! After stalking forums here forever, I decided it was time to join :)

I'm heading to Disney in September, I'm booked and ready to go on my girls only getaway.. (our boyfriends decided to play in Vegas instead, can you believe them?):rolleyes:

Anyway, my fiance and I decided we want to do something big for our 7 years Ann. in May '14. However, we can't decide between, 7 nights at Bay Lake Towers with the DDDP or a 4 day cruise on the Disney Dream with 6 nights at a modern resort with the DDP... help!!!:confused:

Also, we typically stay at Coronado Springs but feel, if we must stay at a modern resort again, we should switch it up, so any suggestions on a modern resort 2 Coronado lovers might like as well?

Quite a dilemma you have there!
From the choices you are considering, I would choose the cruise option. Staying at Bay Lake Tower would be nice, but if the cost of the two options is similar enough I think you get more value from the cruise and staying at a moderate resort.

On a side note, you and the girls are going to Disney and your man in going to Vegas?
Just remember, what happens in Vegas.........

Haha... yes, what happens in Vegas does stay in Vegas but.. Im not worried... my brother will be there too ;)

First off, welcome to the family!

Secondly, I say go with Bay Lake Towers. In my experience, cruises are not nearly as fun as they should be. Maybe take the cost savings and put them into in-park experiences - how old are your daughters? Would they be into the Bibbidi Bobbidi boutique princess makeover?

Actually no kids... shhh I know, Disney is supposed to be for the kids, but we're all kids at heart right?
I haven't been on a cruise in years, and I remember thinking it was just okay but my fiance has never been... thats probably one of the main reasons I'm not sure which to pick..

I agree with this. The only reason I've never taken a cruise is that I constantly hear from people who have that they are terribly boring. Now, if a cruise is your only option, it's better than no vacation at all. But, when you have the choice of a fantastic time at Disney world where the possibilities of fun things to do are endless, don't handcuff yourself to a cruise. IMO, I think that would be like going to Disney and having to stay at your hotel the whoe time. Yes, the hotels are wonderful, but with all the things to do in Disney it would be painful to have to sit there and not experiene them.

I am booking Port Orleans Riverside for a weekend in May. From the looks of their website it is charming and beautiful! I have stayed at Coronado Springs and probably won't stay again. Secondly, I just went on the Disney Wonder early this month and I say try a cruise. Disney is a quality cruise line! If you don't like it then you will know and will never have to waste your money again. I think the food was great and they have specialty dinning experiences that are worth paying extra for. The greatest stop on your cruise is really Castaway Cay! I wish I could just go there for the week!

Bad experience at Coronado? I was looking in POR, I like that their pools are laid out similar to Coronado, thats probably why we liked it some much, all the families were at the main pool and the smaller pools were empty and quiet. So I'm assuming POR might be there same. I actually went on Disney Cruise Line the first year it was started, but for some reason I just remember feeling like it was Okay... I hardly remember it much at all :confused: But my fiance has never been on a cruise and he loves the sea and the beach, so I was thinking of giving it another try for him.

Can I ask, have you ever been in May before, this will be a first for me, Im normally a september regular. If so, how is WDW at that time? crowds? weather?
Also, were your cruising as a family with kids or just adults?

Not a bad experience at Coronado Springs it's just not my favorite moderate. I would do Caribbean beach over it, I am just a beach type person. I have been to Disney in May but not recently. I generally only try to do Disney if there are room discounts because if they are trying to draw people in that means they aren't too crowded.(hopefully) My family lives in Florida and May has always been good weather while visiting them near West Palm Beach. Last year we went to the Keys and it was like 90 degrees!

We did the cruise as a family with my 4 year old son and in-laws. Having the Oceaneer Club for my son was great, he didn't want to leave the place! That allowed us to have some adult time and visit the sports bar, adults only areas and Palo. Palo was great food and a perfect place to do a date night. Our March weather was not good at all so we really didn't take advantage of the pools on the ship. Thankfully our days at port had much better weather and we enjoyed our beach time.

Apologies - I read "my girls only getaway" as the getaway for your girls. Now that I have a little more reading comprehension down, it seems that the additional info may help out. Since you've been on a cruise, you'll be able to provide a little bit of info for your fiance, as to what it is and what the experience is like. If your fiance is on board (pun), go for the cruise!

Regardless of which option you choose, HAVE FUN!

Welp! You've definitely made me more excited for May, like I said I've been spoiled by the non-existent September crowds but the weather was always rainy or just insanely hot and humid.
Maybe Ill just have to really look into what the cruise has to offer, I just don't want to be bored :( I have heard great things about Palo, and your talking to a true food lover here! So off to investigate I go! Thanks Holly!
