I noticed that Disneyland splash appears to use a diff ride system? Seems like the lift hills are diff and it has "gates" at points.....can somebody explain. Pros cons?

Well, SpM at DL is a traditional log flume, and SpM at MK is sitting "two abreast" so they are totally different ride systems. I noticed the gates on DL's video... The're probably just an extra saftey measure.

Just like Fantasmic stated- DL's version is a free floating flume, much like at most other theme parks with a log flume ride. Same style logs too- everyone in one long row. Unlike WDW, where it's seats in rows and a much more controlled feeling ride. First time I went on it I was expecting WDW version and was shocked when I got soaked on it because of how different it is!

Splash Mountain is the origional. Splash Mountain in Disney World was built off the sucess of the one in Disneyland. My point is what they learned with the one in Disneyland only helped inprove the design for the Splash Mountain in Disneyland. Not saying Disneylands vershion is bad, theyre both as good and both different in many ways.

WDW's version uses underwater conveyor belts where Disneyland's uses the gates at the top of the three mini drops. I presume WDI decided it was either more efficient or reliable than the gates. I side with efficient because a log stopped before a drop can be advanced into the drop faster than opening a gate and waiting for the water flow to move the log.

is it correct to assume the scale of the "mountain" is smaller in DL? it appears more of the drop occurs "below" level if you get what im trying to say.

I would be more inclined to call it technology changed and was improved at WDW. Just like any ride that is newer the new technology allows you to do things generally better and less expensive.

What seems smaller about the Disneyland version to people is probably the flume canal apparently being more narrow than WDW's. WDW's seems to have somewhat wider canals to accommodate the double seated logs.

I don't know about the height of the mountain itself, apparently the drop is the same height for all versions of the ride. But it does look somehow smaller in ways. Might be some different forced perspective involved or something.

DL's is also a lot faster paced because of the speed of the flume. After riding both versions and having ours back to good show quality, I can say with confidence that I believe WDW has the superior version.
