At least Oz had a reason for being bullcrap, as it was all a dream by a 12 year old girl.

Avatar is just James Cameron trying to top himself, but bringing nothing new to the table except for Blue Native American Man Group. It's like "seriously? you spent THIRTEEN YEARS on THAT?"

The good thing about Avatar is that it dashed my preconceived notions about the Alien/Avatar/Blade Runner universe. Want to know why I didn't get disappointed in Prometheus or Alien: Colonial Marines? Because I expected them to suck from the get go!

Thanks James Cameron!

Not really addressing the poll, but I have a related question: does Disney have theme park rights to the (original movie) The Wizard of Oz? I know they had an agreement with MGM and it's included in the Great Movie Ride, so I think they can use material from that movie for a theme park attraction. I ask because I've seen it noted that Disney explicitly did not have film rights to Wizard of Oz and thus couldn't use the ruby slippers or the specific appearance of the Emerald City in their new movie, but I think Disney has the theme park rights.

So, I think they could an attraction or attractions based on Oz, the Great and Powerful together with Wizard of Oz. If they did, I would have to think that DHS would be the most logical place, but I'm not sure where (I guess somewhere on Sunset Boulevard barring any new "lands").

Apparently they're thinking of putting an Oz Land in Disneyland. It doesn't really make sense to me and I don't think it's going to happen, but they're thinking about it. I guess they do have rights.

Yeah Oz does not seem like a very good fit for Disneyland but it sure would be here at the Studios. Saw the 3d version today and I loved it. I wasnt expecting to like it or anything and ended up being totally blown away by it. I'll get flamed for saying this, but cant help but feel it could be an amazing new ride in the Chinese theater, or even better yet as an Imagination replacement. Riding through Oz could be alot like the original Imagination in a way. Theres so much they could do with this if TDO werent in the way.

It's public domain. Everyone has the rights. There's an Oz mini golf place by my parent's house.

Well yes but there's no reason they would need to go with that. They have their own Oz now and it's gorgeous.

The problem with that is that people aren't really going to call James Franco's Place "Oz", the same way they don't consider Fairuza Balk's Place "Oz".

MGM's The Wizard of Oz has its own timeless, quite powerful iconography that makes it instantly recognizable to moviegoers.

And unless Disney is able to buy out Warner and make real Oz pictures utilizing the same iconography, anything they (or anyone else for that matter) produce will only be considered a poor knockoff.

Poor choice of words on my part. I don't hate the original Oz, but I hate the thought of trying to make it a Disney park land.

And when having the choice of Oz or Avatar....I simply side with the lesser of two evils: Oz.

Well after seeing the movie today, it would make for an amazing attraction, maybe not a whole land but def a grand attraction. Never will happen though with TDO always in the way saying no. For a land I would rather see a Wonderland from alice.
