POR Stairs and floors Question

OK, maybe it's an optical illusion, but are the stairs in the Magnolia Bend sections higher..or longer than the ones in the alligator bayou section? Is it no big deal? Also, are first floor rooms pretty soundproof or do you hear stomping above? Thanks!

Typically, Disney contracts out to the cheapest company. That company uses the cheapest labor and materials to make a profit. No room is soundproof and it is completely dependent on your neighbors.

Stayed at Parterre Place & Magnolia Terrace.First floor at PP & bottom floor at MT.Never heard anything from above or next doors, but I suppose if you happen to be living next to a loud & noisy family, just asked to be moved. As far as stairs go,if I remember right, two of the mansion buildings have one floor extra than the other two,but don't quote me on this.Master Yoda is your man to answer that one.;)

We stayed in Alligator Bayou (building 16, I believe) in October, on the first floor. We heard no noise from outside (or at least, such noises were obliterated by the white noise of the air conditioner), but yes, we heard a bit of noise from above. Our upstairs neighbors were not loud or discourteous at all, but benign noises made near floor level -- like someone closing (not slamming) the drawer beneath the Murphy bed, or dropping something on the bathroom floor -- could easily be heard.

We did hear from above, but much more from people next to us. Sundays are usually the worst at most resorts because people are trying to get to the airport early. Many times we've been by families that started packing and kids crying not to leave etc. at 5 in the morning. We also got by a "honeymoon" couple who were making noises all night. It was hard to explain what was "wrong" with the people next door to a 10 year old. Yes, they were loud enough to wake her up. Second night was fairly quiet. I think with all night one night and all day at the parks must have worn them out.
They have elevators in the mansions, so I would request an end room on the top floor.
I like those end rooms better anyway.

Thanks, I guess I want second floord(except for the few that are third in Magnolia)
We were in the Royal Rooms last trip. The elevators are in the hall behind the stairs in the middle of the unit.
I can't remember if the two story units had elevators. We haven't stayed in those for a while.

It can be a bit of reality and illusion. The height of each step for every building built to code in the United states will be around 7". You will occasionally see lower than this, but it is typically in paths where the tread length is greater than 11", older buildings, etc. The ceiling heights and floor depth of the Mansions and Alligator Bayou are identical. The reason that the stairs seem higher at Magnolia is because they are a single set of stairs that protrudes farther away from the buildings. This does 2 things. It adds a riser or two to the stairs to make up for the drop in grade and the single stare case simply looks longer that your typical staggered stair with a landing. Add the 2 together and you get a stair case that looks much longer, taller and more grand, which is the effect the architect was going for.

When it comes to noise it is hit or miss. Top floor tends to be the best simply because there is no one above you walking around, throwing down bags, etc. Of course a family with the TV turned up full blast will bug you no matter where they are.
