Am I the only one who refuses to use the Starbucks terminology when ordering?
I mean, a large coffee is a large coffee.
Is using fancy words for small and large a way to justify the fancy prices they charge for their coffee?

Sometimes I use the terms and sometimes I don't. I don't give it much thought, just whatever comes out. All the employees at our local Starbucks are cool enough to know what you mean.

I've never been corrected for saying large instead of venti. Although when you get iced coffee now you have to actually say which you mean. Otherwise they give you the massive trenta cup.

Good morning.
Can I take your order?

Can I get a tall chai?

And a large black coffee.

A what?

Large black coffee.

Do you mean a venti?

No, I mean a large.

He means a venti.
Yeah, the biggest one you've got.

Venti is large.

No. Venti is 20.

Danny.

Yeah. "Large" is large. In fact, "tall" is large.
And grande is Spanish for large. Venti is the only one that doesn't mean large.
It's also the only one that's Italian.

Congratulations! You're stupid in three languages.

nope, me too. I almost never go there, but once or twice a year, the husband gets a gift card for it. I say small, medium and large- they can translate- especially for those very expensive cups of cappucino.
