Disney Needs More For Boys!

I have two boys. From my position, there is an overwhelming slant towards girls, not only in the parks, but through through the animated movies. You've got princesses everywhere! Belle, Cinderella, Ariel, Rapunzel, Merida, and on and on. The "boy" or "male" characters are Buzz, Woody, Lightning McQueen, Mickey, Beast, etc. Lilo and Stich...Lilo is the human (girl) and I guess Stich is supposedly a male alien...What's the deal Disney? Let's get some more princes or boys in the mix! Pinnochio doesn't count...he's a puppet! The Dwarves are all weird looking! Woody and Buzz are toys! Lightning is a car! Mickey is a mouse! I guess Jack Sparrow is my oldest boy's only option, but to quote the great Jerry Seinfeld..."I don't want to be a pirate!"

Totally know what you mean...I've got 3 boys, and while my boys LOVE Tinkerbell and are ok with some Princess stuff, they've out grown Toy Story and Cars...not a whole lot going on for them. They DO like Star Wars ok, and hopefully that will start to make a bigger presence there, but I totally agree, they need some more for boys.

My oldest just turned 8 and he's hitting this awkward area, where he loves the rides, but none of the other stuff, everything is too girly, even the merchandise is "too girly".

We're seriously considering a beach vacation this year! : )

My first trip I had to take my son out of the Pocahantas show bc my son (4 at the time) was screaming "I don't want to watch girls!" It's funny now, but I was so mad that he had thrown such a fit. We avoided anything with princesses, including the Snow White ride, for the rest of the trip. Now, at 8, he'll go and sit through the shows and rides quietly bc he knows I like them, but I still can't convince him to eat at Cinderella's Castle with me. Baby steps...

I (a teenage boy) love anything Disney. I get more excited seeing Cinderella than Mickey/Aladdin (maybe it's because she gave me a kiss our first trip in 2002). As I've said on other threads, it depends how Disney you are. New Fantasyland was a dream come true for me (mainly because it was "new") but I agree they are focusing more on girls now but with their purchase of Marvel I think it's pretty equal! (Not at WDW of course.....)

I keep thinking that but the more I look at it it is even. My son loves gaston. Look at the Pixar movies they are more boy drivin incredibles monsters inc and up. Even princess movies he like Flynn Ryder and Navenn. There is more out there then meets the eye the issue is the princess are the highest grossing property they have next to Star Wars now and girls buy more things then boys.

Forgive me for saying this, but the more boy oriented resort is up the road, they have Spider-man, The Hulk, Jurassic Park, The Mummy, Men in Black, and soon Transformers. Even the Minions appeal to boys.

But to Disney's credit they do have Pirates and Star Wars. Those are pretty boy oriented. And they have their own Dino ride, but it scares the crap out of the little ones.

I totally agree! We are getting ready for our next trip and my daughter always does BBB. Although my son could do pirates league, he'll only be 3, so he's not "that" into pirates yet. He wants to be a prince or king. So, I've been looking online for costumes for him to wear in the parks like his sister gets to.

My boys were awestruck by Universal! Seriously....my 6 year old freaked OUT seeing Spiderman riding his 4 wheeler through the parks and though it was the BEST thing ever! He can wait until he can ride more rides there! LOL

I was thinking the same thing last night! I was thinking I really want to have a girl when I have a kid, because there's just not enough for the lads out there!

They need more for boys and adults.

Kind of like in the mid-90s when there was a big push for more mature attractions that didn't appeal strictly to babies and potentially scared kids senseless like the Tower of Terror, Alien Encounter, Indiana Jones, etc. You know, it was like the even older days when they opened similarly mature attractions like Haunted Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean (where the pirates chased the women), Hall of Presidents, EPCOT Center (could you even find any of the typical Disney characters here in '82?), etc. That stuff was never overly childish, but had enough of the Disney whimsy. They were technically brilliant, expensive, ridiculously memorable and enduring. Plus, you had Pleasure Island and the formation of Touchstone Pictures.

These days, everything is so...girly.
