We will be staying at Saratoga Springs Resort 1/13-1/20
We are a family of 4 Me-DH DW DS19 & DD16
Let me start by saying SS is by no means our first choise.
We booked last minute we r on a waiting list for BWV & VWL our home resorts

My wife will be on crutches/or wheelchair as a result of foot surgery.
do the resorts have wheelchair to use without charge?

We requested a unit in the spring section to be close to the main building (good?)

Without making us feel we should cancel our vacation tell me what the pitt falls are for this resort.

What are the pluses?

How close is it to DTD/Marketplace

Thanks in advance

I would recommend renting a wheelchair if not having one could in any way detract from the experience. There are services available that will deliver to the resort.

This resort is very spread out and a decent walk to DTD.

We realize a wheelchair is a must.

DTD is about 10 minutes from the closest rooms. 20-30 from the far north side of the resort.

The nice thing about Saratoga Springs is you should have no problem finding a parking spot close to your room. Unfortunately, if you don't have a car, things can be a little difficult as some of the buildings are a considerable walk from any of the bus shelters.

I would recommend notifying Disney that a guest in your party has mobility issues if you haven't already done so. This carries more weight than a simple room request in terms of placement and other possible accommodations.

Also don't forget that you can catch a water taxi across to DTD from behind the main building, and there is a ramp for wheelchair access, Disney do seem to cover all the bases. All blocks do have lifts which will also make things easier for you.

Most resorts have a small number of wheelchairs on hand that you can borrow for free with a deposit to insure its return. We do that every year for my mom who has two knee replacements. Ask at check In :)

The lead post is a bit pathetic. SSR certainly is more relaxed feeling than the bulk of DVC resorts. I'd pick it and have picked it over Board and Yacht several times.

Being near the main building can be good or bad, but you want to be near a bus stop for sure. Others have given good and correct advice about wheelchairs. The boat dock to DTD is over by the golf course entrance.

I would not want to push a wheelchair over to DTD along Buena Vista Drive. there are two paths to DTD, going along Buena Vista Drive puts you into the East side, going through the golf course puts you into the back of the parking lot by La Nuba - thats a long walk with a wheelchair though.

There really are no pitfalls, SSR is a very nice resort - it is just a bit spread out. Not the best if you are in a wheel chair, but by no means is it a deal breaker.

We just stayed at SSR for the first time (rented points) in November with one person with a mobility issue. We started with just the wheelchair from SSR (deposit put on room charge account), but after a couple days ended up getting a scooter from an off-site company.

Our 2-BR unit was on the first floor of the 4500 building of the Paddock. While it was a bit of a stroll from the main building, it was *right* next to the Carousel bus stop, which is the second stop on the theme park bus routes. We could be back in our room about 60 seconds after getting off the bus, *very* convenient. I second the recommendation that proximity to a bus stop is key at SSR.

There was one night we spent some time in Downtown Disney and then walked/scooted back to the room. It was a decent walk and we took our time.

SSR is my home resort. While I enjoy other DVC properties, I think this one is very serene. I always request The Springs as it is close to the main pool and Artist's Palette. There is also a bus stop right outside as well. My father borrowed a wheel chair from them for the duration of our stay one year. The CMs were very curteous. I don't think you'll have any problems.

SS is our home resort. WE request Grand Stand... My daughter has Asthma and it is quick access in case she is having a hard day. We call it a best kept secret. Its a short walk to Artist's Palette and the bridge going to Pleasure Island side... or the boat ramp. There is a great pool area with a bar, and drink station, and real close to a bus station. A lot of people ask for the Springs or the Paddock so it is usually pretty easy to get in. :)
